Video Transcript for Ball Mount 3/4" Rise or 2" Drop Review

What's up, everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be checking out this CURT ball mount. So it's gonna have a longer shank on it to help you with clearance, whether you have a spare tire or just the front coupler in the front of your trailer, too close to the vehicle. You can get it out there a little bit. Let's check it out. Now, when you get your ball mount, you're gonna just get the ball mount, so the ball's gonna be sold separately, and so is the pin and clip.

So make sure you pick those up on the website, as well. So you're gonna put this in your hitch. It fits two inch by two inch hitches. Then the ball is gonna go here. Now, when you're picking out your ball, make sure you look at your trailer coupler, and see which size ball it needs.

So this is gonna be a two-inch ball today. We'll put this through the hole. It's gonna be about one inch, so we know it's gonna fit in there. We'll put our lock washer and nut on the bottom. Now when you get it, you're gonna want to torque this down.

You can't tow a trailer with it loose there. But for demonstration purposes, I'm just doing a hand thread so I can show you. This is gonna be the drop position. This is a two-inch drop. You can also use it in the rise position, so that means you'll flip the ball mount over.

Now, that's not gonna work in our application today because of the spare tire. It doesn't quite clear that. There are longer ball mounts out there, too, you can look at if that's an issue you have. But as you see, you drop it in this way with the lock nut, and that on the bottom, and this would be the rise position, but not able to use it with the spare tire. In the rise position, it's gonna have three-quarter inch of a rise. So at least there's some kind of option with a ball mount if that's what you need. The ball mounts gonna be made out of a black powder coat steel, so if you're leaving it on the back of your vehicle at all times, the weather's not gonna bother it. It's not gonna rust or corrode on you. Now, it also has a trailer weight rating of 7,500 pounds. It's gonna have a tongue weight rating of 750 pounds. Now make sure you look at the other components in your setup, like the ball or the hitch. If those have lower weight ratings, go by those because you don't want to stress out your setup. That was a quick look at the CURT ball mount with the long shank on it, helping out with the clearance on the spare tire, or just keeping the trailer a little bit further away from the vehicle, as well. Well, I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out. I hope this helped.

  • Is It Safe to Invert the Malone Dual Receiver Adapter for Towing?
It is not recommended to invert the Malone 2" Dual Purpose Hitch Receiver # MPG544 for towing purposes. The extended receiver is only intended for accessory use not for a ball mount and trailer connection. Your trailer hitch's tongue weight will also be reduced by 50% when you use your bike rack in this adapter, so you will want to account for that as well. My recommendation is to use a longer ball mount like the # D-26 to give you that extra length you desire.

  • Tailgate Clearance With Lippert Electric Trailer Jack
I have a solution for your clearance issue, but the Lippert Jack # LC285318 cannot be rotated. You can get a bit more clearance by using a longer ball mount like this extra long ball mount # D-26. It measures 12-5/8 inches from the hitch pin hole to the ball hole. This will give you more clearance. You could always rotate the whole jack, but you will have to drill some holes and may need to use different hardware depending on your trailer. Obviously you will have the switch and light facing...

  • Longer Ball Mount Solution for Camper Towing with Tailgate Down for Added Clearance
The best way to add clearance when towing with a truck that has it's tailgate down is to go with a longer ball mount like the # D-26 that you referenced which is overall 12-5/8 inches. You can use hitch extenders but they end up cutting the capacity of the hitch they are installed by 50 percent so they aren't my favorite solution to recommend.

  • If I Buy a Ball Mount and a Ball Can You Torque it to Spec for Me? Who Can Torque it?
Hello Dave, I really wish we could torque the ball down for you, but we do not offer that kind of service. We have a dealer locator of Dealers we have all over the US, I attached a link so you can see who is in your area. Give them a call and tell them that etrailer told you to call to see if they can torque a hitch ball down for you, they might charge you to do it, but I would imagine it wouldn't be much. The Ball Mount 3/4" Rise or 2" Drop - 12-5/8" Long # D-26 is a solid choice...

The Receiver Mount for Advantage SportsRack V-Rack 2 Bike Carrier - 2" Hitches # HE6007 has a measurement of 6-1/4 inches from hitch pin hole to tube end. This will not be long enough to even clear your bumper with some of the hitches available for your 2014 Honda Odyssey as you can see in the attached video. • Does Using Gen-Y Stacked Receiver as Hitch Adapter Reduce Tongue Weight Capacity
Hey Matt, yes you can put a ball mount into the Gen-Y Shank part # 325-GH-304 that you referenced like the # D-26 and according to Gen-Y this will not reduce the hitch's tongue weight capacity like a standard hitch adapter would. The # D-26 is a longer ball mount though so I would still recommend using your best judgment and if you are close to your tongue weight capacity maybe consider something different.

  • Trailer Jack to Avoid Tailgate Clearance Issues
There are a few solutions for your tailgate to clear the jack on your trailer. I recommend to use a longer ball mount like # D-26, that would move the trailer back further away from the truck and give you clearance you need. If you know what size the hitch on your vehicle is, the rise or drop of the ball mount for your trailer, if you're using weight distribution or not, and the measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole I can make the best recommendation...

  • Can the Blue Ox Hitch Extender Be Used for Towing a Trailer
I do have a hitch extender for you that can be used for towing a trailer but the Blue Ox Hitch Extender for Tow Bars part # BX88265 that you referenced is intended for flat-towing only as with most of Blue Ox products for that matter. The 10,000 lb maximum towing capacity that this extender has is in regards to the weight of the towed vehicle in a flat-tow setup, not the weight of a trailer in a bumper pull setup. I do however understand how that can be confusing. If you need to use a...

  • How to Determine Which Ball Mount Will Have Enough Rise for Curt Hitch on a 2005 Chrysler 300c
The best way to determine which ball mount is right for your 2005 Chrysler 300c and your trailer is to take a few simple measurements. Since you don't have the hitch we can see by the video of the Curt # 13465, I've attached, that the hitch receiver is going to be 10-1/4 inches from the ground. You will then want to take a similar measurement from the bottom of the coupler to the ground. Then compute the difference. If the hitch height is greater than the trailer height, then •hitch...

  • Can Blue Ox Adjustable Drop Hitch Be Used to Tow Boat Trailer
Hey Ron, welcome back! The Blue Ox Adjustable Drop Hitch # BLU34TR is only for flat towing so it will not work with your boat trailer. What you can use instead is the Patriot Hitches 2" Adjustable Drop Hitch Adapter # PH38NR. This is fully adjustable with a max rise/drop of 11" and a 10,000 lb capacity just like the Blue Ox. Any big trips with your boat coming up this summer?

Hi Joshua! I do have a couple potential option for you, but we do not have any ball mounts with no drop or rise that will work for this purpose. With that said, you could go with one of the two options below: Option 1: Curt Ball Mount w/ Sway Control Tab for 2" Hitches - 3/4" Rise, 2" Drop - 7,500 lbs # D320 Curt 2" Hitch Ball - 2" Rise - 1" Diameter x 2-1/8" Long Shank - 6,000 lbs # C40034 Option 2: Curt Ball Mount 3/4" Rise or 2" Drop - 12-5/8" Long # D-26 Reese Sway-Control Bracket...

  • Longer Ball Mount Recommendation to be Used with Rockstar 3XL Mud Flaps # A10100713
The Rockstar 3XL Mud Flaps # A10100713 that you referenced won't easily mount to a hitch extender as they are designed to attach to a ball mount. Hitch extenders don't typically have enough shank that is 2 inch by 2 inch for the mud flap kit to attach to. A longer ball mount like the Curt # D-26 would be your better option as it has the clearance needed. I attached a review video for this ball mount for you to check out as well.

  • Recommended 2" Hitch Extension for a 4,000 lbs Trailer w/ a 500 lbs Tongue Weight
Hey Scott. I've got a solution for you but there's no hitch extender with those capabilities that's going to work with a standard 2" hitch. Plus an extender is going to cut your hitch's capacities in half. Instead, I recommend the Ball Mount 3/4" Rise or 2" Drop item # D-26. This ball mount extends out 12-5/8" from your tow vehicle's hitch pin hole. It has a 7,500 lbs capacity. This ball mount does not include a hitch ball. • Solution for Tailgate That is Hitting A-Frame Jack
While your frustration is understandable and we have a solution for you, I wouldn't be able to tell you with absolute certainty that using the Stromberg Carlson Electric Trailer Jack # JET-3755 will stop your tailgate from hitting the jack. The reason is, A-frame jacks like these mount to a specific place on your trailer and if your tailgate comes down at that point, they will hit. • Can Head On Lippert Electric Trailer Jack Be Rotated to Gain Clearance For Tailgate
I do have a solution for you, however just the head itself on the Lippert Electric Trailer Jack # LC285318 cannot be rotated. To gain clearance between it and the tailgate on your truck your best option is to simply use a longer ball mount. Something like the Curt # D-26, which measures 12-5/8" long from the hitch pin hole to the ball hole, would work well to increase space between the truck and trailer connection so that you can lower your tailgate. • Differences Between Curt Ball Mounts # C45250 and # D-26
The two ball mounts from Curt # C45250 and # D-26 also known as 45260 are very similar but there is a small difference along with the different style you noticed. The # D-26 has a center of hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole length of 12-5/8 inches while the # C45250 has 12-1/4 inches. That 3/8 distance might allow for better bumper clearance for a particular vehicle. Both are Class III ball mounts, both will fit 2 inches hitches, they both have the same weight capacity and...

  • Recommended Way to Tow a Trailer With a Jeep Wrangler that has a Rear Spare Tire
A hitch extender will reduce the weight capacity of your hitch. Instead, I suggest using a long ball mount like # D-26. This ball mount is 12-5/8 inches from the hitch pin hole to the ball hole. If you need longer than that let me know the distance you need and I'll find one that will work. Also, if you need a rise or drop in the ball mount. This particular ball mount uses a hitch ball with a 1 inch shank like # 40038 for a 2 inch ball or # 19260 for a 1-7/8 inch ball.

This will also be the case for all adapters like the above. That said, I do have options for you that will give you additional clearance and will not reduce your towing capacity below 3,500 lbs.
