Video Transcript for Hands-On with the 2" Hitch Ball-SC23-C

Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer, and today we're taking a look at the Brophy Chrome-Plated Two Inch Hitch Ball. Our two inch ball here, looks nice and sharp, and also we have a one inch shank hole, so the diameter of the shank will fit perfectly on this Brophy hitch mount. We also have a shank length of 2-1/8 inches. Now it is chrome, so it is gonna resist that elements of towing and the rust and corrosion that can build up. Now, if you want to put a little grease over here, that's just gonna add a little bit more protection, keeping this chrome nice and shiny. And this is gonna work great with any ball mount that has a one inch diameter shank opening.

Now, I really do like the way this looks with the aluminum Brophy. Having them kind of matching, just kind of gives it that little extra nice look to it. Installation is gonna be extremely easy. We can simply remove the nut. We have a lock washer there, and we'll just put that in place.

And you can actually, you have spots here to put your wrench on top, and then when you tighten this down, you're gonna want to use a 1/2 inch torque wrench and adjust that torque to the specifications in the manufacturer's recommendations. Now, the only thing left to do is hook up to your trailer, cross up your safety chains here, plug in your wiring, and you can drop it in place and hit the road. You should have no problem pulling a boat or even a large camper, assuming that your coupler is two inch ball rated. And that was a look at the Brophy two inch hitch ball..

  • Does the Brophy Stainless Steel Hitch Ball SC23-C Come with Stainless Steel Nut and Washer
I spoke with my contact over at Brophy about stainless steel hitch ball # SC23-C and found out that the included nut and washer are not stainless steel but do have a zinc plating. This is common for stainless steel balls. The hardware used to secure the ball isn't stainless.

  • Troubleshooting a Hitch Ball that is not Securing When Lowering a Trailer Coupler
There could be a couple reasons this could be happening. One being the hitch ball could be over-sized but I seem to think tightening the lock nut under the wedge will eliminate the need for you to manipulate your hitch ball into the secured position. To tighten the lock nut, make sure hitch ball is removed, and then push the wedge into the coupler and tighten the lock nut as needed. You may do this a few times until you get to your specifications. You could certainly get the hitch ball...

  • Hitch Adapter to Tow Trailer and use Bike Rack
There is an option for you, though the part you asked about is not for use with trailers. Instead, I recommend the Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount with 2" Receiver for Bike Racks and Cargo Carriers # D210. This will give you a ball mount for use when towing your trailer, and a receiver above it which you can use for your bike rack. You can secure it to your Sienna's hitch with the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # e98880 or Pin and Clip # PC3. For a hitch ball, depending on the size...

  • What Hitch Ball Size For 2023 Lance 1475 Travel Trailer
Hey Mike, The hitch ball size should match the trailer's coupler, and per Lance, your 2023 Lance 1475 travel trailer uses a 2" hitch ball. So you'll just want to match the diameter of the hitch ball's shank to that of your ball mount. For example, if your ball mount has a 1-1/4" diameter hitch ball hole you could use the 2" Hitch Ball # CB26C, or if it has a 1" diameter hole you could use the 2" Hitch Ball # SC23-C. You could also use a ball mount that has a 2" ball already installed,...

  • Is Aluminum Ball Mount Compatible With Stainless Steel Hitch Ball For 2 Inch Hitch
Yes, you can absolutely use an aluminum ball mount with a stainless steel hitch ball without worry of the ball mount corroding. In fact, there are no aluminum hitch balls so manufacturers suggest the use of stainless steel as it is going to be the best option work in conjunction with an aluminum ball mount. So what you will need depends on the rise or drop your trailer requires: - 1" Rise, 2" Drop: Curt Ball Mount for 2" Hitches # C74WR - 3" Rise, 4" Drop: Curt Ball Mount for 2" Hitches...

  • Where is Brophy 2 Inch Stainless Steel Hitch Ball Made
Brophy hitch ball # SC23-C is made overseas. For a stainless steel option that is made in the US you would have to go to an interchangeable set, # 903B. I have linked a video review of this set for you.

  • Hitch & Ball Mount for 2002 Jeep Wrangler to Clear Spare Tire
You can avoid clearance issues between your 2002 Jeep Wrangler's rear-mounted spare tire and your towing ball mount by using a ball mount long enough that will extend past the rear edge of the tire. The 2-inch hitch I suggest for your 2002 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is Curt # 13408. This is a no-drill bolt-on installation. When we installed a Class III hitch on your vehicle we found that the distance from the hitch pin hole to the rear of the spare tire was 6-1/4-inches. Once it is installed...

I will be happy to help you get everything you will need to tow a trailer and go on the road with your band: except roadies. We are all out of roadies. First, you will need a trailer hitch. I recommend the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - 2" Item # 306-X7284 with ball mount # C45230. This trailer hitch has a tongue weight capacity of 300 pounds. • Corrosion Resistant 2 Inch Hitch Ball and Lock for Curt Aluminum Ball Mount With 2 Inch Drop
There are a couple of really good options for a 2" hitch ball and hitch lock to resist corrosion with the 8,000 lb capacity Andersen Alumistinger Ball Mount for 2" Hitch - 1" Rise, 2" Drop # AM3503. For a hitch ball you can't go wrong with stainless steel to resist corrosion so the best option is the stainless 2" Hitch Ball # SC23-C. For a 2 inch diameter stainless steel hitch ball to use with the Ball Mount part # EA40 that you referenced the Brophy ball part # SC23-C would work great. This ball has 2-1/8 inch long shank that is 1 inch in diameter so it would fit the # EA40 well.

To install the Brophy 2-Inch Hitch Ball # SC23-C on Fulton Ball Mount # F47CR you will use a suitable torque wrench (one like # ALL944001) to apply 250-ft-lbs of torque on the nut. I confirmed this with my contact at Brophy Machine Works.

  • Best Ball Mount for 5 Inch Rise in 2 Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver
The best ball mount that will give you 5 inches of rise is the Brophy Ball Mount # EA60. This ball mount is made from solid aluminum, which means no welded-on parts that can create weak spots, and also means it isn't going to corrode like steel can. This mount has an 8,000 lb capacity which is more than enough for the large majority of towing needs. For a hitch ball you will need either the 2" Hitch Ball # SC23-C or 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # SC30-C. Then to secure the # EA60 to your hitch,...

  • How to Determine Correct Trailer Hitch Ball Size Needed for Travel Trailer
I can tell you how to determine which trailer hitch ball you need for your 2012 Sportsmen Classic Series M-19BH travel trailer, and it seems likely it is a 2" hitch ball, though there would be no way we could have this type of information available. To determine the correct hitch ball you need to know what size ball the trailer's coupler will accept so that's the first detail you will need to acquire. Like I mentioned, for a trailer this size it is likely a 2" ball but you will need to...

  • Will Zinc Coated Nut Interact with Stainless Steel Brophy Hitch Ball
Honestly I don't have a good answer for that but it seems that as long as you won't be in saltwater you'll be fine. Galvanized steel and stainless steel normally won't become problematic together but if there's salt water you will see some corrosion develop. We haven't had any people come back and say the nut and washer created problems with the shank and ball of the # SC23-C either.

Roadmaster High-Low Adapter # RM-048-6 is intended for use along with a Roadmaster tow bar like their BlackHawk 2 # RM-422 but is not rated for trailer towing, as you noted. Instead you'll want to use a ball mount with the same 6-inches of drop, such as 8K-rated aluminum ball mount # EA60 from Brophy. I do have options for you but we do not have exactly what you are looking for. The best option we have is the 2" Hitch Ball part # SC23-C which is made of stainless steel and has a 1" diameter shank. In order to then use this with a 1-1/4" diameter ball hole you would also need the Hitch Ball Bushing part # F-2. • Recommended 2 Inch Trailer Ball for Andersen Alumistinger Ball Mount
The Curt 2 inch Trailer Ball, part # 40038 would be a good choice for you. The ball has a 1 inch diameter shank with a 12,000 lb capacity. It would work just fine with the Andersen Alumistinger Ball Mount you mentioned. Keep in mind that the towing capacity will be limited to the capacity of the lowest rated component, be it the ball, hitch, ball mount or the vehicle itself. The CR Brophy ball you mentioned would also work well, but it has a lower capacity at 7500 lbs.
