Video Transcript for Thule Watersport Carriers TH855XT Review

Today we're going to be reviewing part number TX855XT. These are the Thule Quick Draw Tie-Down Ropes with the Ratchets and Strap Loops. The tie-down ropes with the ratchets are going to let you hoist, pull and anchor cargo on your vehicle's roof. It makes it perfect for use on the bough and stern tie-downs which are required for carrying kayaks or canoes. It's got a really unique ratchet mechanism. I have this side fully assembled. You're going to get two units.

This one is fully assembled and then this is how it is going to come to you in separate parts. We got the ratchet mechanism, the hook that goes on the other end of the strap, you tie it on there with the eyelet right there. You're going to have a strong 13' rope. You're also going to get strap loops. The strap loops are designed to go around the anchor points on your kayak or canoe. They're going to add some extra length to those attachment points.

It's going to make it great for meeting better load clearance. These are supplied. Some people don't use them, but they are supplied in case you find yourself needing some more clearance. This is the ratchet mechanism. You can see here that when I pull the rope through, I would have this point right here on my anchor point on the front of my vehicle or on the back, pull that through. It's going to tighten that rope.

It's going to come with the carabiners. These are going to go around the attachment points on your canoe or kayak. Just a really simple system to use. Again, everything that you see here on the table is going to be included. It's also going to feature a release lever that's located just above the ratchet spool.

That's going to let you release the load when you're ready. With this you're going to get two polypropylene ropes. You're going to get two ratchet pulley assemblies, two carabiners, the two S hooks, the two strap loops that are going to add the extra length to your attachment points. Again, the rope length is going to measure 13' long and Thule is going to cover it with a limited lifetime warranty. That's going to do it for our review of part number TH855XT. These are the Thule Quick Draw Tie-Down Ropes with the Ratchets. .

pretty good ratchet. My only complain is that the clip (part connected to the black case) is small. So if you try to clip it onto a larger clip, its does not make a very big opening. Anyways, good part. Very solid construction, metal. Mine has taken a serious beating and still going strong. Rope very good quality. Does not fray. 410955

Ratchet very good, several trips, rope stuck under front tire, did not break ratchet. Solid

Good quality product. My only recommendation would be to add about 1 ft of a rubber covering at the bottom of the ropes, near the hook. This would ensure that bumpers do not fray or sever the rope when the load is strapped down. 95995

I just received my ratcheting Kayak tie towns to replace my old friction-based setup. They arrived very quickly and for the best price online. Having borrowed a friend's tie-downs in the past, I decided it was time for my own. I'm happy to report that they are very well made and a cinch to assemble using the provided diagram. To use, just attach the hook to your car's underside tow loop or other sturdy location. Then pass the provided nylon web loop through your kayak's locking U-bolt (or carry toggle), and join both ends to the provided carabiner. Draw the rope tight and tie off the remaining length and you're good to go! It's actually faster than reading this review! 212011

  • Carrying 3 Kayaks While Towing a Trailer with a 2015 Ram 1500 Crew Cab
  • It can be tough to bring along all your gear when also towing a trailer but we do have some solutions for you that will allow you to bring all the kayaks with you. If the trailer is a bumper-pull and not a 5th wheel or a gooseneck then a great option is a ladder rack. Ladder racks aren't just for ladders anymore! Take a look at the Rola Haul-Your-Might ladder rack # 59742. This rack has a 400 pound capacity and aluminum bars to resist corrosion. Since the bars are the same size as the...

  • How to Transport 4 Kayaks on 2018 GMC Sierra Short Bed with Tonneau Cover
  • I do have a way for you to transport your 4 kayaks with your 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 but unfortunately you won't be able to add crossbars or a ladder rack system to the truck bed with the tonneau cover installed. Any truck bed crossbar system will require mounting space either on the inside of the rails or on top of them and it looks like your cover would interfere with either of these designs. Because of this your only option (if you want to keep the tonneau cover) is to go with a roof...

  • How to Carry Kayaks With TracRac TracONE Ladder Rack on 2019 Toyota Tacoma
  • There is a way to carry kayaks on with the Thule TracRac TracONE Ladder Rack # TH27000XTB-XK4B (Black) or # TH27000XT-XK4 (Silver) that fits a 2019 Toyota Tacoma (with Deck Rail System) but the 4" wide x 1-1/2" tall crossbars are too large for clamp-on kayak carriers such as the etrailer.com J-Style Kayak Carrier # E98878. The only option to carry a kayak with your ladder rack is going to be the Thule Surf Pad # TH803 which is 18" long so if you have two kayaks you would need to order...

  • How to Transport Kayaks with Thule TracRac TracOne Ladder Rack
  • Because of the size of the crossbars on the Thule TracRac TracOne Truck Bed Ladder Rack # TH27000XTB that you referenced, most standard kayak carriers will not work. To transport kayaks with this system, I recommend using the Thule Surf Pad # TH803. This split-bottom pad will simply wrap around the crossbars to provide soft pads for your kayaks to rest on. You can then add the Quick Draw Tie-Down Ropes # TH855XT to safely secure the kayaks to your truck. I have attached a couple...

For a single crossbar on your Ram you need the 2500 Series Legs # RRRLKVAH, the DK Fit Kit # DK043H, and a 65" long crossbar like part # RRVA165S for silver or # RRVA165B for black. • Can Foam Blocks Fit Around TracRac Ladder Rack Bars to Carry a Kayak
  • The TracRac ladder rack bars are quite large; too large for me to be comfortable saying that you could trim away foam blocks # SR5525 to fit around them. But I do have a solution for you. You can use the Thule Surf Pads # TH803 to protect the hull of the kayak. These pads will fit the old Thule Xsporter bars which are similar in shape and size to the TracRac bars. You would then just need bow and stern tie downs to secure the kayak to the TracRac bars, # TH855XT.

  • Can Two Thule Hull-A-Port XT Kayak Carriers TH848 Be Used On a Factory Roof Rack
  • The Thule Hull-A-Port XT Kayak Carrier part # TH848 is about 20" long while set up. However, there also needs to be space to allow for the upright as this is not perpendicular with the base. If you have a factory roof rack on your Rav4 then most likely you will run into issues trying to use two of these. I instead recommend looking at the Thule Surf Pad # TH803 to protect and support your kayaks on the ladder rack. This...

These crossbars are more of a triangle shape so the peak in the middle as you can see in the attached photo. For 3 kayaks you will likely need some additional tie downs, # TH855XT. Be sure to measure the useable width of the crossbars to make sure the 3 kayaks are not too wide.
