Video Transcript for In-Depth Review of the Erickson Tie-Down Rope w/ Ratchet

Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Erickson Rope Ratchet tie down, rated at 250 pounds, part number 01801. This ratcheting rope tie down has a wide variety of uses from strapping kayaks and small boats to the roof of our vehicle, kind of acting as a bow and stern strap, or if you're going to secure maybe an ATV or UTV on your trailer or bed of your pickup truck or any other smaller items that need to be secured. It has a 3/8-inch diameter nice heavy duty rope. It has a special woven design for maximum strength and durability. It has a 250-pound working load limit. You can see it comes with these 2 silver hooks. These just are going to allow you to quickly and easily attach and detach from a connection point, so that you're not tying the rope around something or looping it around. This is the ratcheting mechanism. Now, the ratcheting mechanism kind of acts like a pulley that has a stop on it and then locks in place, so basically, you just pull this strap really tight, secure your gear in place, and then, that lock inside this housing is going to prevent the rope from loosening up.

To release it, we'll just push forward on this silver tab. You can see then that way I can freely loosen or tighten the strap depending on what application I'll be using it for. Now, we'll go ahead, we've got a kayak up on the roof of a vehicle here behind me, and we'll just this to secure the rear of the kayak to the rear of the vehicle. Now, we're going to hook to the loop here on our kayak, but we're going to make sure that the pulley or the locking mechanism is at the top, so that way we can pull downward on the strap, which is going to tighten it. Then, we'll just take the remaining hook and hook it here on our safety chain loops on our hitch, and then, we'll pull the end of the rope downward, which is going to tighten the 2 ends together, securing the rear of our kayak to the rear of our vehicle. With the rear of our kayak secured, that'll complete today's review of the Rope Ratcheting tie down from Erickson, which is rated at 250 pounds, part number 01801. .

  • What are the Dimensions of Erickson Rope Ratchet Cargo Tie Downs part # 01801 and part # 01800
Yes the Erickson rope ratchet tie down # 01800 is smaller. It is 7-1/2 feet long, 1/4-inch in diameter and rated at 150 pounds maximum load limit. The Erickson rope ratchet tie down # 01801 is slightly bigger at 8 feet long, 3/8-inch diameter and a load maximum of 250 pounds. I also included a couple videos for you as well.

  • Recommendations on How to Safely Carry 12 Foot Jon Boat on Roof of 2013 Hyundai Tucson
A great choice would be a Inno Square bar roof rack, which would be made up of the following parts: 54 inch square profile crossbars part # INB137 Inno Feet for Crossbars, part # INSUT Vehicle specific clamp kit, part # INK605 To secure the boat to the roof, using ratchet straps like # IMF14256 hooked over the crossbars would provide a secure hold for the boat. Using foam blocks like # MPG152 would protect the roof rack from the boat and vice versa, as well as adding some friction to...

  • Can Erickson Tie-Down Rope w/ Ratchet # 01801 Be Used Outside
The Erickson Tie-Down Rope w/ Ratchet # 01801 that you referenced does feature a corrosion-resistant housing but the inner components of the ratchet are not rust proof. The unit can certainly be used outside but you may just want to position the ratchet in a way that prevents water from seeping inside the housing if it will be used on a cover for long-term storage. I have attached a short video demonstration that you can also check out.

  • Tie Down Recommendation for Securing a Harley to Bed of Truck
I have a much better solution for you, but I would not recommend the Erickson Tie-Down Rope w/ Ratchet # 01801 for securing a Harley to the bed of a truck. Instead I would recommend the Erickson Tie Down Set part # EM31352 that comes with 4 ratcheting straps that would work great for what you are trying to do. I attached a review video for you to check out as well.

  • Can Erickson Ratcheted Tie-Down Ropes be Used to Secure Lumber on Roof of a 2006 Chevy Malibu Maxx
I would not recommend a rope tie down such as # 01801 for transporting lumber on the roof of your 2006 Chevy Malibu Maxx. Using ratchet straps such as # EM04418 provides more surface area contact with the wood and you can get them tighter than # 01801. If you were to use # 01801 or something similar I would recommend putting eye bolts in the ends of each piece of wood on each side, running the rope through those, and securing the rope at the front and rear of the vehicle. Then you could...
