Question:
when transporting two kayaks on a roof rack do you needed a bow and stern line for each kayak or can you use a cam strap to attach both kayaks together and than one bow and tern line?

I recommend using one line for both kayaks, but use one for the bow and one for the stern.
Though you may not see it necessary, some states and cities do require that your roof cargo is secured in such a manner.
If you're needing some tie down rope, you can use the:
-Thule Quick Draw Tie-Down Ropes w/ Ratchets and Strap Loops # TH855XT.
This kit includes 2 polypropylene ropes, 2 ratchet pulley assemblies, 2 carabiners, 2 S-hooks, 2 strap loops, and the rope(s) that measure 13' long.
