Video Transcript for Review of Lippert Components - Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension - LC407131

Today, we're going to take a look at the Lippert Components tandem spring axle 2 inch lift kit. This kit will add approximately two inches of additional ground clearance to a tandem axle trailer with leaf springs, so it allows for further unique trailer customization possibilities. And again, it is for use with tandem axles. We're going to go through all the parts here that are included, laid out on the table. You get 12 of these lift kit hanger plates, 12 of the 9/16 by 18 4-inch long bolts, 24 of the 9/16 washers, and 12 of the 9/16 by 18 nuts. Right here, you get six of the hanger spacers, six of the 9/16 shoulder bolts, with 7/16 threaded in, and then six of the 7/16 by 20 flange nuts. That should do it for the review on the Lippert Components tandem spring axle 2 inch lift kit.

So far the 5th wheel trailer pulls much better with the lift kit. I also installed new leaf springs and EZ Flex Equalizers. The trailer now sits level when hooked up to my F350. The lift seems to be overall about 3". The one thing I think customers should be aware of is with these older lighter duty early 2000's fifth wheels is how they originally manufactured the suspension. In the case of my Keystone Cougar; the main frame runners are narrow I beams about 6" tall by 2" wide. Welded to the main runners on the frame are "U" Channel brackets that one could euphemistically call suspension shackles. This is where the leaf springs mounted to originally. With tandem axle trailers, tight turns tend to make the axles walk or flex the tires quite a bit. Now I have extended that "U" bracket and the flex on tight turns is greatly exacerbated. I will have to watch for metal fatigue on this part or weld some stiffener brackets in place. I wouldn't trade the ease of lift though. I have struggled with how to lift my rig since I got it 5 years ago. $500 is sure cheaper than $25 - $65k for another newer factory lifted 5er. 647379

Do you have a question about this Accessories and Part?

  • Installation of Lippert Components Tandem Axle Lift Kit LC407131
  • Lippert Components Tandem Axle Lift Kit # LC407131 provides approximately 2-inches of additional ground clearance for a tandem axle leaf spring suspension trailer. This is not a block kit but an adjustable extension kit. The kit requires no welding, but just some drilling into your existing hangers for installation. I have linked the complete instructions and the included photo shows how the kit's main components, the hanger plates and hanger spacers, install along with your existing...

  • Lift Kit Recommendation for 2018 Forest River Wildcat 30GT to Add 2 inches of Height
  • We have a 2 inch lift kit you can install on your 2018 Forest River Wildcat 30gt which will help greatly with the nose high situation you have now. For that you'd want the # LC407131. This basically attaches to the hangers of the suspension and spaces out the connection between them and the suspension by an additional 2 inches.

  • Can Skid Wheels be Used to Help Keep 5th Wheel Trailer from Bottoming Out with Steep Driveway
  • You definitely can install the Ultra-Fab Skid Wheels # UF48-979013 on your 42' 5th wheel but it is worth noting that the wheel and caster plate measures 7-1/2" tall so if the 16-1/4" that you measured is from the frame rail then that means your ground clearance will be reduced to 8-3/4" which really isn't much at all. If your frame sits below the skirting on your 5th wheel trailer then you should be able to use a shorter option like the Ultra-Fab Steel Micro-Roller # UF48-979021 which...

  • Can Spacer Blocks be Used on Fifth Wheel Trailer to Get Nose Down
  • We do not generally recommend using a spacer block because it can cause the trailer to bounce more and its suspension to wear out more quickly. So while this can be done, it isn't the best solution, particularly if those inches can be had by your son getting smaller tires. One option is to use the Lippert Components Tandem Axle Lift Kit # LC407131, which will add 2 inches of lift, so long as the trailer is a tandem axle. I have added a link to a video review for you to take a look at...

  • Will Over-Under Kit Raise Height of 5th Wheel Trailer with Leaf Springs Above the Axles
  • If your leaf springs are already located above your trailer axle then the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-385-00 won't change anything as its designed to relocate axles from above the leaf springs to below the leaf springs. There are a few other ways that you can still add some height to your trailer though. We have the Lippert Tandem Axle Lift Kit # LC407131 which will raise your trailer up to 2", you can change out your hangers (see linked list of products),...

  • Leaf Spring Hits Equalizer After New Leaf Spring Install
  • The most common mistake when replacing a trailer leaf spring is measuring the existing leaf spring while the trailer is loaded (wheels on the ground) and not accounting for the leaf spring lengthening over time. Therefore, it sounds like the new leaf spring you have may be a bit longer than the one it replaced which is why it is now hitting the equalizer. This would be the only reason that this happened if the equalizers and shackle straps remained the same. If you still have the old...

  • Availability of Product to Provide Suspension Lift for Keystone Fifth Wheel Trailer
  • We do indeed have some kits that will raise the axles a bit, but we would need to know the manufacturer of the axle (look for a tag or sticker affixed to the axle tube) and whether the trailer has a torsion or a leaf spring suspension. Since you're using the road armor system, you'll have a leaf spring suspension. The best bet would be the Lippert Tandem axle lift kit, # LC407131. The kit would lift your trailer by 2 inches. If your leaf springs sit under the axle, and your axle is...

  • How Difficult Is the Installation of the Lippert Components Tandem Axle Lift Kit
  • The most difficult parts of installing the Lippert Components Tandem Axle Lift Kit # LC407131 is jacking the trailer up to release pressure from the leaf springs and then making sure everything is level. Aside from that you are essentially removing the wet bolts and replacing them with the new bracket and bolts. The installation instructions have been linked to this page for you to reference. Another option that is actually more cost effective is to install an over-under conversion...

  • Best Way to Lift Jayco Eagle
  • The best way to lift your Jayco Eagle is called an over/under conversion kit, which moves your trailer's leaf springs to the top of your axle and lifts your trailer approximately the same amount as your axle's diameter plus the height of the leaf spring pack (please keep in mind this conversion kit is for use with double-eye springs only). I have added a photo which displays how the kit will look after being installed. If you have a 2-3/8" round axle you would need Dexter Trailer Springs...

  • Is 4-1/2 Inches Of Bedside Clearance Enough Using a Sundown Gooseneck Trailer
  • Although we do recommend 5-6" of clearance between the top of the bed rail on the truck and the bottom of the loft on your trailer, the 4-1/2" you have would properly be alright as well but you would need to be careful over steep grades. As you mentioned, the only option to help improve this would be to lift the trailer for which we have over/under kits like part # K71-385-00 or leaf spring hanger spacers like part # LC407131. Although we do have replacement pin boxes and pin box upgrades, like the 5th Airborne Premium # 5AB-E1621-16K, I have a few things for you to check first. • Do I Need To Re-Level A 5th Wheel Trailer If My Truck Squats Once Coupled
  • Correct, when you couple your trailer to the tow vehicle the tow vehicle will most likely sag which will then brings down the nose of your trailer. Therefore, you may need to move the hitch head up to the next setting in order to then re-level the trailer. That said, the bed sides on newer trucks like your 2016 Ford F-250 are very tall so we find that most customers will have the hitch on the highest setting which then leaves the trailer nose high. However, you will still need to maintain at least 4-6" from the top of the bed sides to the loft of the trailer so you may not just be able to lower the hitch head all the way down.
