Will Dexter Premier Disc Brake Kit Fit Calkins Tandem Axle Boat Trailer

Updated 07/07/2025 | Published 06/30/2025

Question:

I’m interested in the Dexter Premium Disc Brake kit: T2HRCM10DAC I have an old Calkins twin axle boat trailer with 5 on 4-1/2” 14” wheels with disc brakes that needs new brakes. I gave up trying to find calipers so I thought I would just get the whole package. I have the 4 in diagonal bolt spread for the axle/caliper mounting bracket. I believe I have the 84 axles with the L68149/L44649 bearings, etc. Is there anything I should look out for as far as fitment? I realize I’ll have to fiddle with the brake lines to make them fit but other than that. I already bought your new disc brake actuator so I’m good there. Thanks for any information, Jay

Hey Jay! Replacement calipers can be tricky, especially with some of the older brands that are no longer around. Assuming all of that information is correct, the Dexter Premier Disc Brake Kit # T2HRCM10DAC will fit and work well as a replacement. The main thing is making sure the bearings/spindle match so the rotors will fit. You also checked the brake flange which lines up with your standard 3,500 lb 4-bolt brake flange pattern so you're all set.

Any big plans with your boat this summer?

I've actually sold the boat and trailer and told them I would get the trailer in shape to tow it. Boy, the things we say before engaging brain. It sat for 25 years but we had a blast in it up till life caught up. Time to let someone else have fun. Thanks for the info, Jay

@Jay ah yes, I've definitely done that before. Hopefully this is the last thing and it is all ready to go. Let me know if you need anything else.

@RobinH I do have another question as a matter of fact. I spent so much time and effort looking for brake calipers I forgot to check the brake lines and of course the rubber lines are bad and not so sure about the steel lines/fittings. So my question is would the Hydrastar brake line kit: HS496-252 work for me. The trailer has leaf springs with disc brakes. I purchased the Dexter Premium Disc Brake kit: T2HRCM10DAC (will be here in a few days) and I already have the brake actuator:T4745720 so I'm guessing all will fit. Thanks for any info, Jay B
