Secure, Two-Piece Jaw

Q20 Two-Piece Jaw

Unlike slide-bar models, the rounded, two-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

Three-Point Indicator System

Get peace of mind with Curt's color-coded lock indicator. Just look at the indicator - either the one on the handle or the one on the hitch itself - to determine whether the jaw is in the correct position to uncouple (red), couple (yellow) or tow (green).

Q20 Color Indicator System

360-Degree Pivot

Curt's unique spherical axial bearing provides a durable pivot point that allows easy, 360-degree movement of the hitch head. This ball joint is designed for smooth, quiet operation with less clunking and chucking.

Video Transcript for Breaking Down the Curt Q20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch

Today we are going to take a look at and demo the Curt q20 fifth wheel hitch, part number C16130. Now here is what our fifth wheel assembly looks like, right out of the box. The only exception is, we went ahead and took the legs and bolted them onto them onto the main assembly with the hardware that is included. Here on top, we have our lube plate that comes with the hitch, and that is just to hold it. So let's just go ahead and take the lube plate off. As we open it up, we'll notice a two jaw design, meaning both sides of this will close around our king pin.

Giving us 360 degree coverage of our king pin for less rattling and increased safety. Now if I take the lube plate holder and put it back in, we can go ahead and force those jaws to close, so we can get a good idea of what it looks like around our king pin. Good, quality holding, 360 degrees all away around our king pin. Now the great feature is its got 360 degree tilting, which means it can go on a diagonal, off any corner, forward, back, even side to side. Next, we're going to take a look at our handle here. The handle has a pin in it now. If we put a padlock in here, it would lock our handle and no one would be able to release our king pin.

We will go ahead and take our pin and clip out, set it aside. Remove the lock that is on the handle now, and we can open it up releasing our jaws. Now as the handle locks out, you will notice that inside the indicator window it is red. That means we are not ready to tow. Then as we release the handle, it will go to yellow.

This means the jaws are open and they are ready to receive the king pin. When the jaws close, we will get green inside our window, and we are now ready to tow. We can go ahead and throw the lock back on our handle, slide the pin in and our handle is locked and we are ready to head on down the road. Maintenance of our fifth wheel assembly is real easy. Its got three easy to use grease zerk's. One on each side, here on the passenger side and then an identical one on the driver's side, and then there's one right down the middle right above where our king pin would sit.

There are three grease fitting stickers, if you just follow the arrows that will lead you right to your grease zerk. Another really nice feature of our fifth wheel assembly, is its height adjust ability. Meaning, here we are set with our legs at the highest adjustment point. We could lower it 2 inches, or even 4 inches and go here at the top set of holes. Each leg has two bolts that go into pre-threaded legs, making it super easy to remove and reinstall. Now our hitch is capable of up to 20,000 pounds towing weight and 4,000 pounds of vertical load limit. Now let's go ahead and show you how to install your hitch. Now keep in mind our q20 is designed to go in the universal rails. Meaning, whether it is a nice set of Curt rails like this one, or other manufactures, they are all designed basically the same so that attachments are interchangeable. Let's go ahead and set the hitch assembly in place. Now with our hitch comes four pins and four clips for securing to the rails. We will simply slide it through the rail, go through the hitch, then back through the rail, then put our clip on to lock it in place. There you have it, our demonstration on the Curt q20 fifth wheel hitch, part number C16130.

  • Base Rails, Brackets and Fifth Wheel Hitch for 2009 Ford F-150
Though you can mount a fifth wheel hitch in your 2009 Ford F-150, I reached out to Demco who told me that due to the age of the Demco SL16 FWH-34 there are no brackets available which will work to fit that hitch in your '09 Ford F-150. Due to that your best option to pull a fifth wheel with this truck is a new fifth wheel hitch along with an installation kit and base rails that are compatible. There are a couple of custom 5th wheel installation kits that use long frame mount brackets for your 2014 Ford F-150. Then repeat with the other side outside slot. The measurements should be the same. If not then the rails are not square. Take a look at the picture to see what I mean. I...

  • Popping Noise Coming From Curt Q20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch
There are several parts on the Curt Q20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # C16130 that need greased regularly; one zerk on each side of the head, one zerk in the center of the jaw, and the cam on the locking jaw mechanism. I have attached a photo that shows each of these points for you but also make sure you are using the appropriate grease type as this is important as well. If the issue is still not fixed once you have greased all of the above components then the next thing you will want...

  • Comparing Curt A20 and Curt Q20 5th Wheel Hitch for 2020 GMC Sierra 3500
The difference between the Q20 # C16130 and the A20 # C16140 is the design of the head. The A20 is the newer design that has the more standard dual pivoting head allowing front to back and side to side movement. The Q20 has a spherical axial bearing that allows 360 degree movement for a quieter ride. Customers have also at times had issues with easily connecting to their trailer because the head can move in all directions. My recommendation for you is the A20 and if you have the factory...

  • Will Curt Q20 Work With Lippert Turning Point Pin Box
There is a great option for a Curt 5th wheel hitch you can use with your Lippert Turning Point pin box, but the Curt Q20 Fifth Wheel Hitch # C16130 is not compatible. The reason is the head of the Q20 has what is called a "spherical axial bearing" which is really a fancy way of saying it pivots 360 degrees. This means it is not stable enough to work with a rotating pin box such as the Turning Point or a Sidewinder. A very similar hitch that will work with your Turning Point pin box is...

  • Compatibility of Curt Gooseneck Hitch with B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch
To install a fifth wheel hitch that would be compatible with your existing Curt gooseneck hitch, I'd recommend using Curt X-5 adapter, part # C16210. This adapter will lock into a Curt Double-Lock, Flip and Store gooseneck hitches (C-60 and C-600 series). The adapter provides bed rails for a fifth wheel hitch that uses industry standard bed rails like Reese, Curt, Draw-Tite, Valley or Husky. The Curt Q20, part # C16130 would be a good choice. The hitch has a 20,000 lb capacity and a dual...

  • 5th Wheel Hitch Install Kit Rail Location for 2017 Ford F-250
The actual position of the bed rails can vary according to which manufacturer's frame bracket you're using. Since most folks tend to order the brackets from the same manufacturer as the hitch, I'll assume unless told differently that you're using the Curt # C16428 frame brackets with your Curt bed rails (you always want to ensure that the frame brackets and bed rails are from the same manufacturer so the capacity of the installation isn't compromised). The rails for this kit mount so that...

  • Will The Curt Q20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Work With The Trailair Rota-Flex 5th Wheel Pin Box
No, the 20K rated Curt Q20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch, # C16130 will not work with the Trailair Rota-Flex 5th Wheel Pin Box, # LC328330. The manufacturer notes state "the Trailair Rota-Flex is not compatible with Curt E-Series or Q-Series 5th wheel hitches".

  • Are Carriage Bolts used In Center Of Rails For Curt Fifth Wheel Installation Kit
I have attached a drawing from the installation instructions for the rail kit part # C16430-204 you can check out. As you can see in the attached drawing I noted the carriage bolts and where they are located on the rails when installing. Please note the front rail uses 2 longer carriage bolts and the 8 shorter bolts are used in the other rail mounting locations.

  • Air Bags Compatible With Curt 5TH Wheel Hitch On a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Long Bed
Yes, you can install the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs # F2613 on your 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD with the Curt Q20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16130. The Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit # C16429-204 will use different mounting points than the Firestone air bags. I recommend the Air Lift WirelessAIR Compressor System # AL58WQ. With this system you will be able to adjust the air pressure directly from your smart phone with the Air Lift app. This means you can control...

  • Troubleshooting A Curt Q20 Fifth Wheel Hitch That Won't Uncouple
To uncouple the Curt Q20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16130 you'll first want to get the trailer as level as possible with the truck in-line with the trailer. Next you'll need to pull off the handle lock (pictured below) to allow the handle to pull out. You may need to lift up your trailer just a bit to take some of the pressure off of the hitch head to prevent it from binding up. Being brand new you shouldn't have any issues with it needing grease already so it's most likely just bound...

  • Will Curt Q20 Fifth Wheel Hitch Fit Into Same Rails as B and W Patriot Fifth Wheel Hitch
The Curt Q20 fifth wheel hitch part # C16130 that you referenced will fit perfectly into the fifth wheel rails you currently have installed in the bed of your truck. This hitch fits the same "industry standard" fifth wheel rails that your B and W Patriot hitch # BWRVK3200 is designed to fit. The rails would not need to be repositioned either. Basically you just remove the Patriot and you'd be ready to install the Q20.

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch and Installation Kit Recommendation for a 2014 Ford F-150 Short Bed
For a 5th wheel trailer hitch that, when removed, leaves a clean bed in your 2014 Ford F-150 short bed you can use the B and W installation kit # BWGNRK1104-5W with slider Companion 5th wheel trailer hitch # BWRVK3400-5W. The slider provides 12 inches of travel for clearance when making tight turns. To determine if the slider hitch will provide enough clearance you will have to take some measurements. Once installed the centerline of the hitch will be approximately 45-1/8 inches forward...
