I will be happy to help you select a 5th wheel hitch and installation kit for your 2012 Ford F-150.
First, if you have an 8 foot bed, I recommend custom installation kit # C16441-204. Custom installation kits are preferred because most, including this one, do not require drilling into the truck frame for installation. For a hitch, I recommend going with a 16K hitch, # C16120. This hitch features a 360 degree cushioned head for a better ride.
If your truck has a 6-1/2 foot bed you can use the same installation kit as above. But for the hitch you will need to use the slider version, # C16521. The slider would be needed to compensate for the clearance lost on a short bed truck.
If your truck has a 5-1/2 foot bed it gets a little more complicated. You would need installation kit # RP50081-58 and a fixed hitch, Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Slide Bar Jaw - 16,000 lbs # C16115 because the bed is too short to use a slider. To get the clearance needed you would have to use a Sidewinder replacement pin box to move the pivot point of the trailer back 22 inches. You'll also need Sidewinder Wedge # C16991 with this hitch.
Sidewinders only fit certain OEM pin boxes on trailers so I would need to know the manufacturer of the pin box and the model number to determine if there is a Sidewinder that will fit. This information should be on a sticker or plate on the pin box. I have included some video links and a link to our help article on Sidewinders for you.
If the trailer already has a Sidewinder or Revolution pin box you would not have to replace it.
