Replacement Lippert ABS Drums And Brakes For A 4400 Pound Axle On A 2025 Grand Design 5th Wheel

Question:

Good morning! I am in need of some brake components and want to make sure I am purchasing the correct parts. I have a 2025 Grand Design with the Red Lippert ABS wheel hubs. They measure just under 13 and I am running a 15 wheel. I have 6 lugs with 5.5 in spacing. This is for the right hand passenger side of the trailer. I have 4400 lb axles. I am looking at the Lippert LC47PX hubs and the lippert LC22NX electronic brake assembly. Now, what I was reading on the hubs it appears these are for the bigger 5.2K - 6K axles but everything looks and measures correctly. My sticker says I have 4400 lb axles which would default to the smaller hubs, which is why I am a bit confused. My vin number is: 573TE3227S6652606 Please let me know if these parts are correct. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Kevin!

This will sound odd, but you actually have a 5,200 pound axle that is capped to 4,400 pounds of capacity. Lippert does this every now and then, but the measurement and color of the drum you supplied confirmed it. Their true 4,400 pound axles use a black 10" drum and brakes (the # LC34RP and # LC79MP).

So with that said, you will need the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for Lippert ABS System - 5.2K - 6K Axles - 12-15/16" - 6 on 5-1/2 # LC47PX and Electric Trailer Brake Assembly for Lippert ABS Hubs - 12" - Left/Right Hand - 5.2K - 7K # LC83PX to get everything replaced (you will need 2 drums as they are not sold as a pair). If you really wanted to confirm it, you could pull one of the drums off and check the bearing numbers. This will use the # 25580 inner bearing and the # 15123 outer bearing.

One other thing to note when you are doing the install; do not remove the ABS sensor from your camper. That is not included with the new brakes (see included image) and you are meant to reuse that part. It simply unbolts from the old set and bolts onto the new set.

Are you wanting these for spares? I hope brakes and drums last longer than a year or two, unless you are traveling a lot!

I replied the brake drums and the drums on both axles on my 2025 keystone cougar 316RLS. This was the easiest brake and drums unstall I have done after 15 years of RVing. Mine were 6000 lb axles and the brake pads were gone after the first year and a half. Hope this set lasts longer than the first.

@Jeffrey I hope so too! A year and a half is way too short for the life of a brake. Definitely let us know if these last longer!

Thanks for help! This clears up the confusion. Unfortunately the adjuster bolt broke free inside my hub and damaged the components. The lower spring was missing so Im assuming that broke, freeing the bolt. I wish I wasnt replacing brake components that were only 1 year old.

@KevinH Yeah that's definitely a bummer! Springs and things can fail though and I have hear of this happening before with a different brake (I think it was a Dexter, but it was quite a while ago). If one side is still looking good, we do sell the Brake Assembly for Lippert ABS Hubs - 12" - Left/Right Hand - 5.2K - 7K # LC83PX individually and I have them listed below.
