What 7K Leaf Spring and Suspension Upgrade Kit is Best for My Trailer?

Hi I need 4 leaf springs for a Dexter 7000 lb axle. I think they are 24 7/8 long with 6 layers. I also need new shackles and wet bolts for these. Is there a complete package available. I want the best spring available. Thanks

Hi Jay,

To replace your trailer's leaf springs, I suggest using the Dexter 6-Leaf Double Eye Spring for 7,000lb Trailer Axles part # DX75CR. This spring fits your exact measurements at 24 7/8" long with 6 leaves and has 9/16" eyes with Nylon bushings already installed. If your trailer is frequently in wet environments or near salt water, I'd suggest using the etrailer Rust Resistant 6-Leaf Double Eye Springs for 7K Trailer Axles part # e56FV. These have all the same features of the DX75CR but have a Dacromet finish with 700-hour salt spray rating to help to prevent rusting and flaking from water or salty winter roads.

To go with your new leaf springs, I'd upgrade your suspension to a heavy-duty kit like the MORryde Suspension Upgrade Kit for Tandem Axle Trailers 2 1/4" Long Shackle Straps part # MR46ZR. This kit will upgrade your spring mounting hardware with thicker shackle straps, wet bolts, and bronze bushings. The 1/2" shackle straps are more durable and twice as thick as stock straps, while the wet bolts with built in grease fittings help make maintenance easier. The bronze bushings are a great replacement for the Nylon bushings because they're more durable and last longer. Before committing to the kit, you should measure the length of your current shackles to make sure you get the correct length. If shackle straps are too long or short it will change the angle of your leaf sprigs and affect the ride quality. Most trailers use shackles that are 2 1/4" long (from center of bolt hole to center of bolt hole) but on the off chance you have a 3 1/8" shackle strap now, you can use the MR76ZR.
