Thoroughly Tested for Safety

This hub-and-drum assembly meets the requirements for certification by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The CSA creates standards, which when complied with ensure a safe and quality product. This assembly underwent extensive testing to measure stopping distances when braking. This assembly has also been tested by QAI for braking performance in a complete automotive setup and under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday driver.

E-Z Lube-Compatible Assembly for Simple Lubrication

The grease cap on this hub-and-drum assembly is specially designed to work with your Dexter E-Z Lube axle to make lubricating bearings quick and easy. Just remove the plug on the grease cap, attach a grease gun to the zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, and inject the grease. It will flow easily to both inner and outer bearings. Not only does this make lubricating the bearings easy, but it also helps to prevent corrosion of the hub. This is because you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Video Transcript for etrailer Trailer Hubs and Drums - Hub with Integrated Drum - AKHD-5475-35-EZ-K Review

Today we're going to take a look at the 10 inch trailer hub and drum assembly for 3,500 pound easy lube axles. This has the 5 on 4-3/4 inch bolt pattern. This hub and drum assembly provides your surface area right in here for your brake shoes to grip when the drum brake is activated. It is compatible with both electric and hydraulic drum brakes. This trailer hub assembly will fit easy lube trailer axles. The easy lube axles have the grease zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, and that allows you to grease the bearings without having to remove the complete hub assembly.

This part will come with the easy lube compatible grease cap, and when this is installed on here you can see it makes it very easy to lubricate your bearings. Just pop this rubber plug out, gives you access to that zerk fitting on the spindle, put your grease gun in there and you can pump grease into your bearings using that. That way you don't have to dissemble your whole hub and drum to get to the bearings. Now this hub and drum assembly does include everything shown here on the table, and it also includes the bearing races which are pre installed in the hub. There's the outer bearing race right there, and if we spin it around you can see the inner bearing race right in the back. Also includes the inner bearing, the outer bearing, the grease seal, the easy lube grease cap with that rubber plug, and the 5 half-inch lug nuts.

Now the hub and drum is a sturdy iron construction and it has a nice zinc enriched paint finish on it and zinc finished bolts for to help resist corrosion. This part is certified by U.S. SAE standards and CSA, which are the Canadian standards. Application on this is 3,500 pound easy lube trailer axles with the number 84 spindles. This is compatible with axles from most manufacturers, which include Dexter, Limpert, and AL-KO.

This is designed to work with a 10 inch brake assembly. Ten inch is the diameter right here. The bolt pattern on this one is a 5 on 4-3/4 inch bolt pattern. It does have a weight capacity of 1,750 pounds per hub, so when this one is matched with the hub on the other side of the axle, it'll meet your 3,500 pound rating of the axle. Now these parts right here, the inner bearing, which is the larger of the two, it's a part number L68149, has an inner diameter of 1.378 inches. That would go in the inner bearing race, so you just put that in like that.

To hold it in you have your grease seal, overall diameter of 2.565, that would go right there, and then you just tap it in there to hold everything in place. The outer bearing, which would be the smaller of the 2 bearings, it's a part number L44649 has an inner diameter of 1.063. That would drop right into the outer bearing race like that, and then that's covered with the zinc plated easy lube grease cap with the rubber plug. That would just be on like that, and again the rubber plug, it'd be attached to your cap and you just pop it off to access the zerk fitting. Now for this video, I'm showing you where these parts are all located on the hub and drum, but when you do install these initially for the first time, you do want to make sure both bearings are greased properly and then installed in there. Then from then on once they're initially installed, you can just maintain them, and not have to take this hub and drum off to get to them by using that zerk fitting on the easy lube axle. Also it comes with the 5 half-inch by 20 size lug nuts, and these are used to hold your tire and wheel assembly to the drum. Once you put your wheels up onto the studs, just go ahead and put your lugs on there and then torque them down to the correct specs for your application. That will do it for the review of the 10 inch trailer hub and drum assembly for 3,500 pound easy lube axles with the 5 on 4-3/4 inch bolt pattern.

Just what I needed, and priced well. Bought a drum locally, and they gave me the wrong bolt pattern, and won't take it back. etrailer sent what I ordered, it fits perfectly like I knew it would. I'm about to order a brake controller for my truck next. I won't be able to get a pic until I mount it to the trailer, which is 600 miles away from me at the moment unfortunately. Thank you etrailer. 471741

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hubs and Drum?

  • Which Axle Should Electric Brakes be Installed on with Tandem Axle Trailer
  • When installing electric brake assemblies on just one axle of a tandem axle trailer, you will essentially want to choose the axle that is going to be seeing more weight. Typically on utility trailers, most of the weight will be in front of the axles so the brake assemblies will be installed on the front axle. For boat trailers, where the motors are at the rear, you will usually see brakes on the rear axle. I have attached a great article that details everything you will need to install...

  • Replacement Axle for 2,000 Pound Dexter Axle on a Pop-Up Camper
  • We have straight axles that are close to the measurements you have provided, see link, but the spring seats would have to be moved and none of them have brake mounting flanges. I propose a different approach by using a Timbren axle-less system # ASR2KHDS01. This system will provide the "axle" as well as the suspension in one unit plus the suspension part will not wear out nearly as quickly as traditional leaf springs because the rubber won't corrode. They are also set up for electric...

  • Replacement Hub-and-Drum And Brakes For Triple-Axle Trailer
  • If you are wanting to add the hubs, drums, and brakes to your trailer you need to make sure you choose components compatible with the spindles on your axles. The best way to find out what you need is to get the numbers on your bearing and race. I have attached a photo that shows where you can normally find the numbers on those items. If you are unable to find the numbers, you will need to measure the spindle in the locations marked in the photo, using a precision instrument like a digital...

To be sure you'd need to pull off a current hub that you have and get the dimensions of the spindle where the bearings ride. If it's 1.06 inch and 1.378 inch then this is the correct hub. This has the 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern that you said you need as well. The matching assemblies that you'd need would be the part # AKEBRK-35R-SA for the...
