Recommended Hitch for a 2026 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring

Hi, I just bought a 2026 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring. The Honda dealer is quoting me a ton of money to install the hitch because of complexity with the Hands-Free Power Tailgate Sensor on the Touring trim. What hitch do you recommend for my car? And do you have a Honda specialist you recommend in Austin, TX to install the hitch? Thank you!

Hey Kyla, congrats on the new SUV. To add a hitch to your 2026 Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport Touring, I recommend the B&W item # BW97BR. It is a class III hitch with a 2" receiver that has a 4,500 lbs towing capacity and a maximum tongue weight of 675 lbs. This hitch is custom fit and includes all necessary installation hardware to get it set up.

I really like the B&W item # BW97BR hitch because of how it looks after it's installed. The entire crosstube is concealed behind the rear bumper leaving only the 2" receiver exposed. This not only looks better but helps with ground clearance. This low profile helps with the hand's free sensor as well. We've found the sensor comes mounted offset to the right of the center of the bumper and there's a zone that isn't blocked.

You could also install the EcoHitch Stealth Trailer Hitch item # EH25KR. It's quite a bit more expensive but this hitch has a removable 2" receiver that doesn't affect your Lift Gate sensor when it's removed. Your CR-V looks like it doesn't even have a hitch installed. So if you're infrequently using your hitch this would be a good option to look at.

Is this a Honda OEM hitch? If not, can you suggest one that is? I may need Honda to install the hitch or I could risk voiding my warranty.

@KylaI No, it's not an OEM hitch. We don't sell those. Installing an aftermarket hitch does not void your warranty no matter what they tell you at the dealership because of the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act (P.L. 93-637). The Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act in short states that manufactures cannot void the entire warranty of a vehicle simply because you installed an aftermarket component.
