2025 Ford Maverick Has No Brake Light Switch For Roadmaster Relay - What To Do?

Question:

Hello, I have installed a new flat towing system to that I have purchased from you for my 2025 Ford Maverick. I have a question about the road master brake light relay. So, I watched the videos about the install. It tells me to look for the brake light switch by the brake pedal. I have been a mechanic for over 40 years and I have been all over the place under this dash. There is no brake light switch on or near the brake pedal. Has anyone at e trailer came across that? Just wondering if someone could help with this? Thanks Dan Owens. If someone would rather talk to me about this issue you can call me on my cell 4193660603

Hey Daniel, thanks for reaching out. Yes, I have heard of this. The # RM-88400 relay still needs a brake light signal, but on the 2025 Maverick there isn't a traditional brake light switch on the pedal to tap into. Ford changed the system, so the brake signal is generated electronically instead of by a mechanical switch.

The fix is to add the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit # RM87GR. It's a custom-fit switch and bracket for the 2025 Maverick that mounts under the dash and provides the brake pedal signal the # RM-88400 relay needs. Once the # RM87GR is installed, you can wire the # RM-88400 just like the instructions call for.

What motorhome are you towing with?

Jesse, Thanks for responding to my question. I will be towing it with a forest river e-350. I think i can achieve the same thing by wiring the relay in at the back of the truck where the tail lights are. I will let you know if that works out. Thanks Dan Owens

@DanielO The 2025 Maverick does not require the RM 88400. Use the RM87GR and tap into the brake signal wire from the braking system. I used the Stay and Play Duo and still installed the RM87GR because I wanted an actual indication the piston was physically moving the pedal versus an indication the electronic signal had been sent. I installed the brake diode kit on my Maverick and it works wonderfully. The 2025 Maverick lights and RV lights will function perfectly without the RM-88400.

@JesseM Please see my comment to Daniel. I passed the information on to your experts previously and yet I still see references to the RM-88400. Not necessary on the 2025 Maverick Hybrid. Not sure about other 2025 models but find it hard to believe they would be different.

Yes... easy install and worked perfectly. No other way to pick up brake signal.
