Placement of Camper Packer and Can It Be Cut Shorter

Updated 05/06/2026 | Published 04/28/2026

Question:

Where should I place the forklift camper packet on my host mammoth 11.6 camper it weight about 5000 lbs. The height of 35 inchs also seems really tall to store the camper. So why is it so tall and would it be better to cut it down and if so what height would be better. Thank you for your expert advice!

Hello again Steven. The Camper Packer # TLA7010 is meant to support the camper under the main floor/frame structure, not out at the edges. You’ll use 2 stands, one toward the front and one toward the rear. We don’t have a specific placement for a Mammoth 11.6, so if you’re unsure, it’s a good idea to check with Host Industries for the best support points.

As for height, the 30"–35" range is intentional since that’s about where most truck beds sit, so it reduces how far you have to lift the camper when loading. You can cut the lumber shorter if you want it lower for storage, just keep in mind you’ll have to lift it higher to get it back on the truck.

I cut my lumber down to make the camper packer a total height of 29 inches. I am more comfortable with this height and Robin at etrailer was a great help and another associate also contacted the manufacturer of the camper packer to reassure me I was not making a mistake. The camper is very stable at this height.

@Steve glad to hear that 29" height is working out well and keeping things stable for you! Did you ever figure out which extension you need for your setup?
