Question:

Good morning. I have a 2018 heartland pioneer RE275 with a dometic 13.5k ducted ac unit and thermostat that runs the furnace as well. What do you recommend as a full ac replacement and furnace control? I’m seeing great reviews on the furrion chill cube 18k. Does this come as a package unit with soft start and thermostat to control the furnace?

Good morning Howard! To replace your Heartland Pioneers ducted AC, I recommend the Furrion Chill Cube RV AC w Air Distribution Box item # FR69TD in white or item # FR49TD in black. These are complete systems with the 18,000 btu Chill Cube AC, an air distribution box designed for ducted systems, a wireless remote, and a thermostat the can be modified to control a furnace.

The Furrion Chill Cube item # FR69TD in white or item # FR49TD has a variable-speed inverter compressor, which works similar to a soft start. It draws under 5 amps during startup and then slowly speeds up to avoid a surge in power.

Please note that there's no way to just replace your Dometic 13,500 btu AC unit without replacing all the other components like the air distribution box and an existing thermostat. This is due to the EPA regulated refrigerant change that began January 2025.

What size breaker is your Dometic connected to on your fuse panel? To upgrade to a 18,000 btu system, you will need to have a dedicated 20 amp breaker.
