Question:
Hello, I just had U-Haul install a hitch and 4 way pin on my 2023 Kia Telluride S. The 4 way pin wiring they installed was the Curt CMF56490. I am looking for the easiest way to convert to 7 way pin wiring and install an electronic brake controller. Is that the universal 4 pin to 7 pin installation kit? From the video the wiring looked pretty intensive so just making sure that is the best option.

Hey Trevor, welcome back. The Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller item # ETBC7 is indeed going to be the best way to add a 7-Way to your 2023 Kia Telluride S for a traditional in cab brake controller. It includes the connector, a wiring bracket, the wires you'll need to reach the cab and your battery, and the necessary circuit breakers.
There's no plug and play 7-Way options or a factory brake controller port for the S models of your 2023 Telluride. By far the easiest way to add a brake controller is going to be the Curt Echo Wireless Brake Controller item # C51180.
The Echo item # C51180 is going to plug directly into your Telluride's 7-Way connector and allows you to control the settings through an app on your phone. The Echo is also a proportional brake controller that slows or stops your trailer when your Kia decelerates. It uses Bluetooth to communicate with your phone so you will never have to worry about losing signal. If your phone dies it automatically uses the default settings you program in.
Please note that if you go with the Curt Echo item # C51180, you will only need to run the 12v power wire up to your Kia's battery because the brake controller is wireless. You can use the item # ETBC7L instead and skip the part where you have to run a blue wire up inside your Kia's cab.
What kind of trailer are you pulling?
