What Class V Trailer Hitch do You Have for My 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 with Flatbed and Original Hitch?

Updated 03/16/2026 | Published 03/12/2026

Question:

I have a 2004 Dodge 3500 4x4 with factory trailer hitch. It has a flatbed on it that does not connect to the hitch and no rear bumper. I’d like a class v hitch for it please. Recommendations? Thank you

Hello Michael,

I would go with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Custom Fit Class V Commercial Duty 2-1/2" # C15809 (for 2" receiver # C15409). This is a really solid heavy duty option for your 2004 Dodge Ram Pickup with flatbed.

One nice thing about this hitch is that you can install it with your current hitch still in place (see attached image). That way you keep the 2" receiver you already have and also gain a Class V 2-1/2" receiver for heavier towing. It gives you a lot of flexibility depending on what you’re pulling.

If most of your accessories are built for a 2" receiver, I would also recommend grabbing the BTBRV Magnetic Hitch Receiver Reducer Sleeve 2-1/2" to 2" Red # BTBRV64FR. The magnet on this sleeve really makes it stand out from other reducers. It helps keep everything aligned and eliminates a lot of the annoying rattling you usually get with standard sleeves.

What kind of trailer are you looking to haul around that you need to upgrade to the class V?

I’m towing my 30’ toy hauler (15700 gvwr) with sway control and a 14k dump trailer without. The stock hitch has nothing to support it as the bumper is gone so I assume your recommended hitches won’t need the attachment point either? Thank you

@MichaelL The hitches that I recommended can be installed without the factory hitch as well, the hitches install through the frame of the truck.
