What Is The Distance From Tube To Outer Head Of etrailer Electric Trailer Jack # e55ZV ?

Updated 03/12/2026 | Published 03/05/2026

Question:

Im considering this jack to replace the deadline on my Flagstaff Micro Lite 25foot BRDS trailer. The Existing jack allows me to let down the tailgate while the trailer is hooked-up. I cannot find the measurements that will ell me if this new jack part e55ZV would also allow me to let down my tailgate when hooked -up. The housing on my current deadfoot jack extends about 4 1/4 inches in front of the jack lifting shaft and that gives me about an inch of clearance to let down my tailgate.

Hey there Greg! The etrailer Electric Trailer Jack - Drop Leg - A-Frame - 18" Lift - 5,000 lbs # e55ZV has a measurement of 4-3/8" from the outer tube to the furthest point of the head. This tells me you should be good to go, but just barely!

What happened to the old jack? Just finally gave up after so many years?

Andrew, thank you for the reply. It's exactly the info I was looking for and the diagram you sent is fantastic. That diagram will be very helpful to others, too. You asked, 'What happened to the old jack?' Water damage.....It quit working so I opened the cover and found water had gotten inside the motor. I removed the drive gear from the motor shaft and used the hand crank to continue my 2025 trips. Can't wait to receive the new jack and the other item I ordered just now (Order Number: 124232968). Thanks again, Greg S.

@GregS You are very welcome! And that's unfortunate, I wonder if it would be good to put a cover over it for future use. They are supposed to be weather proof but I guess sometimes water can find it's way in! Hope you like the new jack, Greg!

My two cents; My tailgate just barely cleared the housing of the jack head when I tried to lower it. That was too close for me so I just bought a little longer stinger so the ball stuck out a bit more, all good now. You'll like this jack, easy to install and works every time. It's slower than my original but it was a 3000lb and this one is 5000lb. I chose to give up speed for torque, as you probably already know, you have to give up one to get the other. Have a good one.

This Jack is excellent. I needed to rotate the Jack, use two of the 3 mounting holes and drill one hole to mount it sideways so I could drop my tailgate. You have to rotate it about 110 degrees not 90 to use 2 of the existing holes. Both my 24’ ATC enclosed car trailer and 25’ Jayco travel trailer required this method to just clear my 2500 HD ZR2 Silverado.
