Are Both Hitch Pin Holes On Andersen Weight Distribution Hitch Shank Usable
Updated 01/30/2026 | Published 01/26/2026 >
Question:
Can the Anderson hitch be installed using the hole closest hole for the pin so the hitch sticks out the farthest so my tailgate opens all the way?

Hey Leonard! Yes, you can use the hitch pin hole furthest away from the head to install the Andersen Weight Distribution Hitch # AN53VR in your receiver. Both of the hitch pin holes can be used to secure the shank.
What kind of trailer are you towing?

I also had to rotate the head of the jack but had to go to a 90 degree position. The shaft had holes in it to facilitate that option. Works good now without having to extend the hitch shaft. Towing a Brinkley I235 with a 2017 ram 2500.

I have a 2026 Geo Pro 19FD towing with a 2025 GMC Canyon. I have tried both holes on hitch and the tailgait does not clear tongue jack regardless. I use the hole on hitch that brings the ball closer to the truck.

I use the hole that puts the ball farther from the receiver, and still had to turn the switch housing on my Winnebego Micro Mini trailer jack 90 degrees. Tailgate on my 2021 GMC Canyon now clears by a couple inches after doing so.

19fbs geopro, towing with 2020 ram 1500 limited, still misses opening by 1/2”, hitting toggle switches on electric jack, probably will need to rotate jack 45 degrees to be able to open without hitting.
