Best Base Plate And Flat Tow Wire Harness For 2026 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon X

Updated 01/28/2026 | Published 01/12/2026

Question:

Hi. I have a few questions regarding flat towing products for my Jeep. I recently bought a new 2026 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon X 4 door and I need to fit it with a baseplate and taillight wire harness. I have been towing my previous Jeep and I have a BlueOx Alpha tow bar and Patriot brake system. In the past I had a BlueOx baseplate and BlueOx wire harness installed on the Jeep. I need some assistance picking the best baseplate and wire harness for my new Jeep. Although I was happy with the BlueOx baseplate, Im thinking the Demco DM9519339 will be a better option as I am hoping for a cleaner install less obtrusive when not it use and the included replacement skid plate. IS this a good option for my Jeep and is it compatible with my BlueOx Alpha without any adapter? Regarding the wire harness, I used the BlueOx in the past and didntt have any problems with it. My new Jeep has LED tail lights. Is the BX88368 still a good option for me? Any concerns with tail light and turn signal operation with my LED tail lights? I also looked at the RM63MR but it looks like a bit more involved install. Can you guide me on the best harness for my 2026 Rubicon X? TY

Hey Gary, thanks for reaching out. You are on the right track here. The Demco Tabless Base Plate Kit # DM9519339 is the best base plate option for your 2026 Wrangler Rubicon X. It will be a much cleaner install since it comes with a replacement for the factory skid plate, which will be permanently removed. Also, the Demco base plate will be directly compatible with your Blue Ox tow bar - no adapters needed.

As far as the wire harness, the Blue Ox # BX88368 is compatible with your Jeep. In my experience these Blue Ox (Hopkins) wire harnesses are not the most reliable solution. They can work fine but we have seen a ton of returns on these and we hear about a lot of problems so I just don't have a ton of faith in them. If they have worked well for you in the past, and you are wanting a non-invasive plug and play harness then by all means use one.

What I typically recommend are the diode kits like the # RM63MR you mentioned. They aren't too hard to install but you do cut wires and install diodes in line. The diodes are a much more reliable solution that if properly installed will basically work for as long as you own the car. Also the # RM63MR kit uses a 6-pin plug for the front of the Jeep. The 6-pin plug is preferred because it allows you to run a charge line from the motorhome 7-way to the Jeep battery. This is recommended since the braking system does put a small drain on the battery. In my opinion the diode kit is the best option. Totally up to your preference though.

All that said, I will go ahead and provide a parts list for you. Here is what I recommend:

- Demco Tabless Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # DM9519339

- Roadmaster Smart Diode Kit for Variable Voltage LED Tail Lights - 7-Way to 6-Way Adapter Cord # RM63MR

- Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-156-25

- 12 Volt Outlet Kit, 20 amps # RM-9332

We also have a new breakaway for your Patriot system, part # BRK2505 if you need one of those.

Let me know if you have any other questions, or if there is anything else I can do to help!

Hey Gary, how did the Demco base plate and Roadmaster diode kit work out on your new Wrangler Rubicon X? I’m curious if the cleaner look and the charge line setup met your expectations. Your feedback could really help others setting up a similar flat tow system.

@JesseM waiting a couple of weeks to install but I’ll let you know. I decided to get a new tow bar also because our blueox is older and a little undersized. I’m planning on the demco 10k model

@GaryL Sounds good! We do have the Demco 10K tow bar available as part # DM9511013. Or if you want to save a few hundred bucks, get the etrailer XHD Non-Binding Tow Bar # e94ZR. This our etrailer brand which is actually made by Demco. Same factory as their tow bars only its rebranded as etrailer. Same 10,500 lb capacity and features just for a lower price.
