Ground Clearance for Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver on 2025 Chevy Equinox EV

Updated 12/11/2025 | Published 11/30/2025

Question:

I watched a review of the Draw tite hitch and saw that the full assembly sits above the low point bottom of battery compartment of the vehicle by a couple of inches. As the Curt sits lower, does it sit above or below the battery compartment. I need the higher tow weight of this hitch but am concerned about ground clearance. Thanks in advance for your response. Hi Ed; I can't say if the # C89RV will hang down below the battery box or not. The one measurement we have is the distance from the ground to the top inside of the receiver which is 11". Accounting for the 2" opening and then the collar around the receiver the bottom of the hitch will sit approximately 8-1/2" off the ground.

You can compare that measurement to the battery box to see if it hangs lower. Clearance probably isn't a major concern unless you have a bike rack without built-in rise hanging off the back and you're transitioning to a steep incline like a driveway.

What will you be using the hitch for?

Towing a boat that weighs about 900lbs with a trailer that weighs about 1000lbs. Is there an engineering cautionary % cushion in wt ratings for hitches? I noticed the Eco hitch for this car mounts the same as the Drawtight hitch - has the higher clearance like the Drawtight- but is rated for the vehicle rating of 3500 lbs. Is the drawtight weight rating ultra conservative for the design?

@Ed as long as you don't exceed the capacity of the hitch or vehicle you will be fine. When you're close to the hitch capacity, more can be better so you don't screw up and overload if you add in some extra gear or whatever on your boat and didn't think about the weight. The hitch ratings are accurate. I'm not sure what is going on with that Draw-Tite but they even list it on their site that way.
