This fully welded steel hitch gives you a solid connection point for hauling and carrying gear. With a 3,500-lb maximum gross trailer weight and 350-lb tongue weight rating, it’s built for small campers, utility trailers, bike racks, and cargo carriers. The 2" x 2" receiver opening is the standard size for most hitch accessories, so your racks and towing gear will fit without adapters.
The sturdy steel construction is protected by a matte black powder coat over a base layer that resists rust and corrosion. The finish has a rugged, carbide-like look that hides scuffs, dirt, and dings better than glossy hitches. It’s designed to keep looking good even after miles of road grime and weather exposure.

This hitch bolts directly to the frame using the included hardware kit and clear instructions—no welding needed. Precision, robotic welding ensures everything lines up perfectly for a tight fit once installed. The concealed cross tube keeps the visible part of the hitch to just the receiver, giving you a clean, factory-style appearance under the bumper.
Once mounted, you can pair this Class III receiver with a ball mount, bike rack, or cargo carrier to make the most of your vehicle’s hauling potential. Whether you’re setting up for weekend towing or just need more space for equipment, this hitch gives you reliable strength and versatility every time you use it.

Got it installed. The bolt size was not what the bolts came with and the original nuts was not mentioned in the video instructions. Overall mission accomplished.
It looks great and I love how there is no exposed bar or anything. It was scary to take the bumper off...I'd never done anything like that before. But other than that, I think the install was actually pretty straightforward between the written instructions and the video on this site.
Total install time: 50 minutes… almost easy off - easy on. Everything went very smoothly. Impressive!!!!!
The hitch is very ruggedly built. The installation video was excellent. I only used the paper instructions for the torque specs.
I used my wood pellet bags to support the bumper while removing and reinstalling since I was working alone.
The only problem I had was with the muffler being in the way of the carriage bolt. There was no way to get the torque wrench on it unless you moved the muffler. I did the best I could with an open-end wrench and guessed at the torque.

Ive used it many times with no problems
Adam, thank you for the additional support! I’m a female and was able to do the application myself. So proud and 5 stars to the video and extra video and instructions. Oh, I’m now a proud owner of a torque wrench.

PS I’ll be ordering another hitch for a Subie 2025 outback wilderness.
Fairly easy to install and looks better installed and keeps factory crash resistance better than hitches that attach to the bottom of the frame. I had a problem with the passenger side mounting. One bolt hole was slightly off and I couldn't get the bolt in, so I used a bottle jack under the hitch to get the bolt in-possibly the hitch was slightly bent in shipping. Would have given 5 stars if not for that. Don't be intimidated by removing the bumper cover since that part of the installation is easy.

works as it should
As usual, great product from etrailer. This is my 4th trailer hitch in addition to 2 bracket setups for towing our car behind our Motorhome from etrailer. We bought a new 2022 Subaru Outback and needed a Class III hitch for our bike rack & my utility trailer. This one was cheaper that the Curt unit, but was rated the same and was mounted the same so why pay the extra $ ?
Installation was pretty straight forward and if you have any questions just watch the install video. My only concern was there were NO fishwires included in the kit. I had saved 2 from previous installs so I had that covered. As it turns out you can get away with out them IF you have some long needle nose pliers because contrary to the instructions you simply insert the bolts from the rear opening rather than up through one hole in the frame rail and down into another like some other installs require. Look closely at the picture and you can see what I mean. The holes are cut pretty precisely in the hitch and the 7/16” bolts wouldn’t drop fully down until the other mounting bolts and nuts are tightened down. I did lower the rear muffler some for easier access to the nut on the 7/16” bolt.
When it came time to cut out the bumper cover I measured exactly as shown in the instructions, but found the cover was tight against the driver’s side of the hitch and interfering with the position of the cover. I had to remove the bumper cover and trim off another 1/4” on that side. My recommendation is to measure over 3.75” instead of 3.5” so it clears the receiver. Even if you cut too far you’ll never see it it’s so low and tucked under.
Took me about the time they said, but I was in no hurry. Looks great and far cheaper that the $[XX] for the factory hitch! ??
etrailer will continue to be my go-to place fro all things hitch related!

Itself been a year now & the hitch still works like a charm!
Great hitch and super good installer you recommended in my area. Thanks again!
We are happy with our trailer hitch receiver for our Subaru Outback
For a gal who is handy, but not a "car guy", this couldn't have been easier! The video walkthroughs were helpful to have in my back pocket, but instructions were fantastic. Great little hitch to give me a little more flexibility with my vehicle. WAY better than taking it to the dealership and spending 3x the price, and great quality.
Perfection!! Super high quality powder coat. Simple installation and no BS, just the stuff you need. So glad I went with this instead of OEM. Fantastic value for the money

Ive had this hitch for a year, and am still standing by my 5 star review. I use my subie for ski trips, and have driven through tons of salt and ice, and the hitch and all of its components have zero rust or wear. Extremely solid hitch. Insanely good value, highly recommend!

Overall, the finished product looks good but the installation was poor. I took photos, mostly just to share with friends but I ended up using them with Support. you can see that the hitch is simply put into a cardboard box with no protection. I felt badly for any other shipments around it. The inserts, into the rails where you fish the bolt, didn't line up. I wound up sucking down the receiver in the rear using other hardware just to line it up. Had I known to do that in the beginning, it actually would have gone much faster. Support was polite and friendly but did not provide guidance.
The written instructions along with the video were excellent. It took around 90 minutes to install. Looks like a factory installed hitch.
The quality of the build is quite good. I did notice that the loops for holding a trailer chain has one side welded on both sides of the loop and the other side just one side. I doubt this will be a safety issue but an interesting difference. The powder coat finish is very nice, I like the flat black finish. I am having it installed on Friday, so I can’t speak of its use yet.

Well I'm glad you are happy with it so far, Bruce! Let us know how the install goes as well. What will you be using it for once it's installed?
Etrailer makes it easy with great instructions and videos for installation and their quality is always first rate. The only place I look for hitches.
Appears to be of excellent quality. The install was straightforward and I would highly recommend buying the push pins removal tool shown in the instruction video. I installed this hitch on my 21’ outback xt and the only difficulty I had was torquing the carriage bolts as the mufflers make it very difficult to access. The appearance when installed is very tidy and looks similar to OEM without the additional cost. Would highly recommend!
Installed myself on 2024 Subaru Outback in about 2-1/2 hours. Follow the e-trailer video, the instructions that come with it aren't very specific. You may have to get at least a few new clips for remounting the bumper cover. I had a couple of the big ones that wouldn't squash together enough to get back in the hole. You can easily go without until you can but any replacements you may need. Note that the required fish wire is included with the receiver. Two of them. I didn't see it listed so check with a live chat - and they said I had to buy one, which I did. Only needed one, now I have two spares! They're a little vague about the difficulty in getting your wrench up to the mounting bolt that's up behind the muffler, but if you slide the muffler back a little bit and kind of hold it out of the way, it's not too bad. I haven't given the installed unit a hard test, but I did install my bike rack in it, add a bike and go for a little ride. All good. I'm very satisfied with this product and would recommend it.
An excellent unobtrusive addition to our 2020 Subaru that's further utilitarian-ized our only wagon. I felt diminished as a head-of-household without at least one vehicle without a "frame mounted" hitch (now a California requirement to even "rent" a trailer and use on roadways).
Installation of a Subaru hitch from Subaru would have required cutting an open-bottom oval from the facing of the rear bumper! Subaru quoted me a price, all inclusive of $1,047.00.
The eTrailer tucked away #e25TR hitch was $217. shipped. The only cutting of the under-bumper is off of an eTrailer cut-pattern and the slice is hidden, and minimal. The complete installation of the hitch and wiring harness at Charlies, in Encinitas, CA was $306. = $523. TOTAL. What cha' gonna do?

Wow! Sounds like a much better price for install than with the dealer. It also looks great and hidden like you mentioned.

This thing is heavy duty! Following the videos to remove the rear bumper facia made this a quick and simple install. I have a Subaru Outback Wilderness edition - so it has two exhausts, and although installing the bolt on each side with the fishwire was easily done; it was a bit challenging to torque the corresponding nuts which required a deep socket (and required some manipulation of the mufflers to try to get a straight path for proper torque).
Other than that - it was a smooth and straightforward install. I love the fact that this hitch is hidden, only a small (and unseen) section needs to be cut out of the facia (unlike the factory hitch), and the receiver alone barely sticks below the facia (which maintains maximum ground clearance).
I even designed and 3-D printed a TPU cover with the Subaru logo to finish it off (Goto MakerWorld - 2 inch Subaru Hitch Receiver Cover)

Sounds like you were able to power through this install Stevie, and make it the perfect set up for you! The 3D-printed Subaru cover is a nice touch to really finish it off too :)
The hitch was easy to install. We were a little nervous about taking off trim but it was pretty easy, just take your time. The muffler needed to be pulled to one side while tightening the bolt on that side, it helps to have a second person for that. Getting everything back on place was easy too. And cutting the plastic bumper was not too difficult, use painter's tape and measure well, it makes it much easier. Overall very happy! Definitely watch the video for this hitch installation, it helps.
The e25TR is easy to install. The provided instructions are clear. Very neat and clean design and you get to keep the bumper beam. The design allows the back of the car to maintain the factory integrity and have a hitch too. Highly recommended!

So glad to hear you're a fan of the design! It is nice being able to keep the bumper beam, for sure, especially on the new 2025 Subaru Outback Wagon. Thanks for sharing a photo of your handy work! Will you be using the hitch for a bike rack or cargo carrier?
I ordered this hitch for my 2024 Limited XT Outback. The hitch kit arrived early and in good condition. I had ordered a fishwire only because the product information did not show that this was included with other parts. I found 2 videos for 2024 Outback installations and watched them several times to get familiar with the procedure. The removal of bumper and cover went well. I did have to remove mud flaps per instructions. The hitch was a tight fit, but I was able to get all bolts started before tightening. I got confused with some of the socket sizes needed and the torque settings differed from one of the videos. I was unable to torque the carriage bolts due to the muffler locations. I may give this another try. The reassembly went OK and I am pleased with the appearance of the hitch.

After a year, the hitch is still solid and no problems with the car trim removal and reinstallation.
easy install. Watch the Video. It helps a lot. You need a deep well 14 MM socket for 2 of the 6 bumper bolts. It is the one you re-use, reinstall with the new hitch. That was the only delay I ran into. Easily fixed once I purchased the correct deep well socket. Once the hitch was installed on my 2025 Subaru Outback, it is rock solid. My total time to install was about 3 hours.

That’s awesome feedback, and that’s a great tip on the deep well socket. It’s always that one tool you don’t have that slows things down a bit. Sounds like you handled it like a pro though, and getting it done in about 3 hours solo is a solid install time. And once it’s on there, that Outback setup is tough to beat. What are you planning to use the hitch for on your Outback?
Awesome product. Easy installation on a 2020 Outback. You need 14mm and 17mm deep sockets, an 8" extension, and a torque wrench. Watch the videos. Get help and be patient handling the fascia.

The new hitch looks great! I'm glad the videos were able to help you out to get it installed. Thank you for listing out what parts you used as well, that'll be helpful for others going through the same install.
Installation is straightforward for anyone with good mechanical skills and tools. Took me about three hours, not hurrying. Honestly, the greatest difficulty I had was re-installing the used plastic body panel retainers. I did have to remove the rear wheels of my car to get the last two in place - the ones on the insides of the mudflaps. I expect these retainers are really designed for only a single use, and you might consider having new ones on hand for the re-assembly. Readily available and cheap from Amazon. (You're very likely to break one or two of them in the removal process anyway.) Also, one of the hitch-mounting bolt winds up next to the muffler. You can get good access to this bolt by removing the rubber muffler hanger and pushing the muffler an inch or two toward the outside of the car. Lubricating the rubber hanger with a little dish soap makes removing and replacing the hanger easy to do. Otherwise, friends, easy enough! Final result is clean and inconspicuous in appearance.

Thanks for the detailed review and all the helpful installation tips Harold! Your notes about the body panel retainers and muffler clearance will definitely help other customers planning this install. We also appreciate the suggestion about having extra retainers on hand since those clips can be stubborn during reassembly. The final install looks really clean on your Outback, and thanks for sharing the picture! What are you planning to use the hitch for most often?
