Will The Curt Hitch C67MJ Fit A 2025 Ford Escape PHEV Without Needing To Drill Into The Frame?

Updated 11/24/2025 | Published 11/21/2025

Question:

Does this hitch or another hitch fit a 2025 Ford Escape PHEV? Instructions were unclear on whether you have to drill into the body.

Hi Ken!

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # C67MJ will indeed fit your 2025 Ford Escape PHEV. I confirmed this directly with Curt and this hitch is actually specifically for the PHEV and will not fit the other versions of Ford Escape. Which is a little odd for Curt as their hitches tend to fit every vehicle option, but I guess the PHEV does have a few things that needed to have a special hitch made for it.

As to drilling into your frame, kind of. We, and the hitch manufacturers, word this a little weird, but you will not be making any new holes in the frame or anything like that. What you will need to do is enlarge two holes so you can get those square hole spacers in. Some people use a step bit for this, but a Dremel tool will also get the job done.

That said, check out the video I have included. If you jump to the 3:15 mark, you will see Danny showing the access holes on a 2025 gas model Escape. I mention this as he found a hole in a different location that made it so he didn't have to do that enlarging step at all. I don't know if this hole is there on the PHEV models, but it's definitely worth checking!

What are you going to be using the hitch for?

@KenG Nice! This will handle up to 200 pounds, so I think you will be happy with it! Just let me know if there is anything else I can help with! : )
