Difference Between Roadmaster and Curt Tow Bar Wiring for 2019 Jeep Wrangler

Updated 11/13/2025 | Published 11/04/2025

Question:

Hi! Apparently my question was submitted before I got to the question ?? We have a 2019 Jeep Wrangler Sport with a JL body style and push button start etc, so I assume it is a JL… vin 1C4GJXAG3KW612600 It was already set up for flat towing by an installer with a Demco Stay In Play and he put a flat 4 under the hood to plug in seperate towing lights, as at the time there was not a direct wire kit available for the JLs. So is there a JL compatible kit now? Looks like Roadmaster and Curt come up as fitting, but the components look different between the two? Which is the best fit? And do I need and seperate diodes/additional relays? Thank you dianne

Hey Dianne! I'm glad you came back and clarified because I just read your first submission and I really wasn't sure what the question was. The 2019 is in fact the JL, which started production in 2017.

I'm assuming you were looking at the Roadmaster # RM-154 and the Curt # C96JR. The Roadmaster looks different and has the separate diodes because it is a universal kit. The Curt is custom for your vehicle so it will be the easiest installation, completely plug and play, with no additional parts required.

Did you have completely separate lights before, like magnetic tow lights?

Yes. We just used separate lights. Do I need anything additional for the Curt custom kit to play well with the Stay In Play duo that is already installed? Thank you

@DianneS you will splice in as outlined on page 15 of the instructions for the Stay-IN-Play Duo # DM86VR (I attached the instructions below). You will also need to add in the diodes under "Note for 7 & 8." If you don't have them you can grab some # RM-690. If you install the # RM-15267 or # RM-154 for wiring instead of the Curt you will already have diodes from the kit.
