Hello Alan, thanks for reaching out. The main advantage of using the Curt RVi Towed Battery Charger # RVI74FR instead of running a simple hot lead is that it properly manages and protects the charging circuit between the motorhome and your Gladiator. The RVi charger regulates voltage and current, which helps prevent overcharging, backfeeding, or electrical issues that can occur with a direct charge line, especially on newer vehicles with sensitive electronics.
The unit also has built-in circuit protection and LED indicators that show charging status and fault conditions, so you can quickly verify that everything is working correctly. Another big benefit is that it isolates the towed vehicle battery when the motorhome is off, preventing battery drain in either direction.
If you are running an RVi brake system, the charger can integrate with the RVi Command Center and Brake Pressure Monitor, making it the cleanest and most reliable option. For non-RVi brake systems, a standard charge line can work, but it will not offer the same level of protection, monitoring, or plug-and-play integration.
