Flat Tow Set up for a 2023 Ford F-250

Updated 11/17/2025 | Published 10/16/2025

Question:

I have a 2025 Renegade Valencia 2024 Freightliner S2RV plus chassis with a 12,000 lb hitch. I want to find the right products and air brake control setup to tow a 2023 F250 diesel 4x4 behind it. The F250 is able to be flat towed. What should I be considering for tow bar/plate/air brake controller? I hear a lot about the airforce1, but your site does not list my RV as an option in the vehicle list.

Happy to help, Kevin!

When looking at parts needed for flat towing it's mostly about the vehicle you are flat towing and not so much the year, make, and model of the RV you're driving. The only thing we need to know about the RV is the type of brakes it has. Based off your message, you have air brakes. The parts you need are listed below for you.

Vehicle Base Plate: # DM68FR
Tow Bar: # e94ZR
Braking System: # RVI94FR (I like this one because you wont have to install anything on your RV like you would like the Airforce1)
Wiring/Diode Kit: # RM-15267
Brake-Lite Relay Kit: # RM-88400
Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles: # RM-156-25
Battery Charge Line Kit for Motorhomes: # RM-156-75

Some optional parts
Tow Bar Cover: # e76FV
Base Plate and Tow Bar Receiver Lock Kit: # DM9523068
Tow Defender Protective Screen: # RM-4750
Sentry Deflector for Demco and etrailer Tow Bars: # DM9523135

I know it's a lot of parts to look at so if you run into any questions please let me know and I can answer them for you.

Hey Kevin, how did the setup with the Shadow 2 braking system and the rest of the flat tow gear work out for your F250? Your results could really help others figuring out a similar motorhome-to-truck setup.

@GwendolynY Wrapped it up the other week just doing a saturday afternoon here or there. The installation of base plates was the easy bit. Flawless. I ended up using the Roadmaster version HD 10000 lb towbar and baseplate instead of the Demco/e-trailer. I would highly recommend the brake wiring and diode kit include 32 to 35 feet of wire instead of 27. I have a shortbed F250 and running along the frame rail I only had 8 inches of wire left, so not enough for a service loop or anything. I did not need the RV charge wire kit or the battery charge kit as the shadow 2 takes care of that if the 7 spade connector on the RV has a +12 and a ground, it can travel through the umbilical and be wired in. Are these returnable un-opened? Still factory sealed? Terms said any electronics are not...but not sure these are categorized that way. The wire reference on the universal brake relay kit from Roadmaster listed "purple" for the F250 of 2025. There are 2 purple wires, a purple-green stripe and purple-white stripe. It was the purple-white stripe that provides the signal voltage required on the relay. Better yet, pin 4 on the connector. Some videos on the RVi system install talk of putting the bullseye repeater connected to the towed vehicles battery. Those are misinformed, it should be installed and connected to the RV battery and positioned somewhere middle between hitch and front of RV where it is assumed the bullseye controller will be positioned. Placement of the vacuum booster for the RVi Shadow 2 was difficult under the hood of the 6.7L powerstroke F250. I ended up strapping it between the coolant reservoir and brake booster diagonally. Not may favorite spot, but it is chunky big... Finally, the shadow2 controller box under the hood, was actually mounted by modifying the driver side battery handle, making a notch wide enough to hold the box, and velcroed in place. The cables provided by Curt aren't long enough to run from the umbilical 6 way connector which is recommended to installed on the driver side, to the passenger side battery where there is better location to mount. I wasn't going to clip and snip proprietary connectors to make it work, but figure this might be helpful for others. Not many may be towing a super duty behind their rig, I know I am odd for that, but gotta fit kids and bikes. :)

@KevinS Thanks for all this feedback! You would be surprised with how many people are towing trucks like yours behind their RVs. In regard to the two charge line kits. I'll have return information sent to you via email so be on the look out.
