Will The Curt Hitch C23FR Fit A 2022 Ford Escape Hybrid?

Updated 10/22/2025 | Published 09/17/2025

Question:

I’d like to make sure before I purchase that the etrailer hitches recommended for a 2022 Ford Escape Hybrid actually fit a Hybrid model. There seems to be contra statement in the info that says it’s not for Hybrid or PHEV models. If it does fit a Hybrid are there additional special installation steps needed to accommodate the battery being in the back? Thank-you!

Hi Russell!

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # C23FR will fit standard and Hybrid versions of the 2022 For Escape, but not the PHEV. For that we have the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # C67MJ.

With that being said, I am not seeing that anything special needs to be done to accommodate the hybrid battery. You will need to enlarge a few holes in the frame, but other than that, it basically bolts right up.

What are you wanting the hitch for?

Hey Russell, how did the hitch install go on your Escape Hybrid? It sounds like the fit should have been straightforward once the frame holes were enlarged. Sharing how it turned out could help others with the same model.

Lazer, I responded to a email and submitted a review on both items Sunday evening. Specific comments are in there. Some minor surprises but the install was successful.

@RussellA Nice! I just saw them. Sorry you had some surprises, but I'm glad everything is installed and ready for use! I wasn't aware of that heat shield and I will see if I can get that added to a tech tip on the hitch. So thanks for that! ^___^ Little surprised about the wiring though. Tekonsha is usually very good about having enough (or more than enough) excess wiring to mount everything. Did you run it in a unique way by chance?
