Installation
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your trunk.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.
Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.
Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.
Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Overall, this was an easy install and the tutorial helped a lot for the initial steps. I have the non hybrid escape and here’s some helpful tips for install. When running the black wire there is a black oval rubber grommet at the back of the trunk close to where the top of the spare tire sits. Make a small hole in this to run the cable. Pull it through. Then when under the car, run this cable along the brake line for about 1 foot. Then run the cable down and near where the runner board is, there is a plastic hollow piece underneath the car that allows you to zip tie the wire about every foot. When near the front driver side wheel well run the cable up behind the cars wheel well cover and the wire will pop out right by the battery. This was the easier way to do it and did not require a jack, lift, or speciality tools. Overall the product was great, the tutorial should have used both the hybrid and the standard version (doing the easy version in the tutorial is just lazy and inconvenient for the customer). Lastly I was not a huge fan of any of the connectors, all the crimp ons were a bit flimsy and leave no room for error, I crimped them correctly and they were still loose (had to nearly crush them and still had to use electrical tape). Otherwise the product has worked as intended.
The electrical kit had everything required. The instructions do not cover the Hybrid explicitly. However, with the 12v battery in the rear compartment, it is an easier install than standard vehicles with the battery under the hood. Otherwise, the instructions are excellent.

Video instructions were very good. Good quality connectors, easy to insall. Note that if you're doing this on an Escape Hybrid like I was, installation is much easier because the 12v battery is right in the rear compartment under the spare tire. The hardest part of the job on a non-hybrid would be snaking the wire under the car to the engine compartment (which I wasted time starting to do before realizing I didn't have to. Doh!).
Installation video was very helpful. Made a lot more sense than the included written instructions. I have a 2022 Ford Escape PHEV so attaching to the rear battery made this very easy to install. Nothing against this kit. But I wish there was a way to run it to an exterior receptacle. Running the cord out the lift gate isn't as clean and worrying about wear and tear on the wire is not something I prefer.

I ordered a trailer hitch. Before it reached me, it was rerouted from the post office near my home in California, back to the East Coast. I contacted etrailer. I was given a date it would arrive, and promised I would be contacted if the date would change. This was important, because I had a trip planned and needed the hitch installed. That date came and went with no call from etrailer, and no delivery of the hitch. When I finally received the shipment (4 days after the promised date),the box it came in was destroyed, and opened. I tried to lift the box and the bottom gave way. The hitch was hanging out one end of the box, and was scratched up. The smaller boxes/packages inside were smashwd, opened as well. The box was also left, not at my door, but at the base of my driveway. I contacted etrailer. They asked ME to tape up/ repackage the box so they could retrieve it ( Seriously, they wanted ME to repair the box! WOW!!) They offered to send me a replacement, however, no guarantees were given that it would arrive promptly. Also, no offer of a small discount or compensation was made for my trouble ( or services for reparing the damaged box). I will not do business with them again. They are not a stand-up company who is reliable,and can be trusted to keep their word and act with integrity.
Great kit. I wish I had watched the video first but I was outdoors and charged ahead with the printed instructions which had me removing a taillight before I realized that was not necessary to gain access to the plug.
It fit very well on my 2020 escape. No issues. Took almost an hour due to very small cut to fit the backing in the hole which was explained in the tutorial video. Im happy to get this rather than spending over a grand from the dealer.

Everything that I needed was in the kit undamaged. I used the installation video and everything went according to the video. I am quite pleased and will purchase from etrailer in the future.
You guys were great with my order. But the wrong package was delivered to me. I’m pretty sure the driver grabbed the wrong box and mine is still on the truck. I called the person whose package I received and he will come and get it because he is close by. I called UPS and they weren’t very helpful. I may still get it today when the driver realizes his mistake or maybe tomorrow. You may need to call and file a claim.
This wiring is for add-on trailer hitch and allows connecting tail-lights wiring from RV without cutting original vehicle wiring when being towed.

Super easy with the Hybrid model, since the battery is under the spare tire and you don't need to remove the tail lights, all the connections needed are behind the rear side panels.
The installation video was super helpful! - Watch the video, then go under the vehicle and take a look since things are always 100% the same (my heat shield was slightly different), then watch the video again. You'll need to purchase a die grinder drill bit on [online] for $10 if you don't already have one. Wear eye protection! Everything went super smoothly!
