Is There a High-Speed Tire Replacement for a 16.5 x 6.5 - 8 Tire?

Updated 09/12/2025 | Published 08/18/2025

Question:

I want to replace my camper tires with something that can more safely handle highway speed. Hi-Run 16.6 x 6.50-8 4 bolt trailer tire assembly from Princess Tire was recommended but theyre Canadian. Do you have a comparable tire with wheel?

Hey Susan!

The 16.5 x 6.5 - 8 tire size is an older model and was replaced with the 165/65-8 size. We have that in the Kenda 165/65-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" White Wheel # AM3H200 but this is rated for 65 mph so you won't be increasing the safe speed by much (if at all).

I can help you get a tire rated for a higher speed, but it will mean getting tires that are a bit larger than what you currently have. For example, the Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10" White Wheel # AM3H460 fits on a 4-Bolt pattern hub and it has an 87 mph speed rating, but it's about 2" wider and has a 4" larger diameter so you're looking at more restricted space where the tire sits.

Would this larger tire size work for your trailer?

Hey Susan, Did you decide if the larger Kenda tire with the higher speed rating would work for your trailer? I'm asking because your experience could help others who are looking to safely upgrade their trailer tires.
