Flat Towing Set Up For A 2023 For Maverick Hybrid

Updated 09/02/2025 | Published 08/04/2025

Question:

Goodafternoon, I have a 2023 Ford Marverick Hybrid and a 2023 Entegra Quest and would like to get the complete set up to flat tow my Maverick behind my Entegra. It appears the Roadmaster may be the best base plate and Nighthawk tow bars, non binding with the LED lights our my best options. Could you please provide the other items I may need as I will need a complete system with wiring harness, safety cables, break system etc. Thank you!

Hi Tony!

I think Roadmaster is the way to go as the vast majority of their parts are American made and they just seem to be built sturdier than other brands. So here is the list I recommend:

Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # RM97RR
Roadmaster Nighthawk All-Terrain Tow Bar w/ LED Lights - Non-Binding - RV Mount - 8,000 lbs # RM-676
Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles - 4-Way Flat Connectors # RM-154
Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-156-25

Since the Roadmaster Nighthawk comes with safety cables, you will not need to add them. It also comes with 7 to 6 way coiled adapter cord and 6 way plug for your vehicle, so you can get away with going with the less expensive option that doesn't include those parts. Always nice to save money where you can! Since your Maverick will be on while flat towing, you will want that charge line kit to make sure your battery isn't dead when you get to your campsite as well.

I have two options for braking systems below. You will want to choose the one that suites you needs best and I can say these are the ones I would choose from if I was setting up my vehicle for flat towing. Keep in mind, you will need the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-88400 to make sure your Maverick's brake signal won't override the turn signal sent by your RV. This goes for both options.

Blue Ox Patriot Portable Flat Tow Brake System - Proportional # BLU37TR
Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo Flat Tow Brake System for RVs w/ Hydraulic Brakes - Proportional # SM99251

I will admit to being preferable towards the Demco system as it is permanent, but that's just me.

Got any big trips planned for the end of summer? It is rapidly approaching.

Hi Tony, It looks like you've got most of the setup ready for flat towing your Maverick behind your Entegra! How did the installation go with the Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo braking system and the other Roadmaster components? I'm asking because your experience could really help others looking to set up a similar system.
