Hitch Extender/Swing Away Adapter for Yakima OnRamp Bike Rack

Updated 07/16/2025 | Published 07/13/2025

Question:

I have a Yakima OnRamp LX 2inch hitch mount and LOVE it. We carry two 55lb e-bikes. Im interested in purchasing a swing away adaptor that works super well no struggle, can handle the weight, and doesnt protrude a lot from the hitch. I cant seem to find any comparison data on how much length swing away extenders add to the hitch. Can you offer an answer to which are the shortest length swing away adapters? Thanks!

Hey Charis, the Yakima Swing Away Adapter part # Y02493 that you referenced would be a great option that was tested for use with your Yakima OnRamp. It would add right at 14 inches of additional length to your setup which is about what they all add.

That's very helpful info, thank you. As my original notes, I'm wondering about the other swing away adaptors that you sell, like the Swagman, Saris, and Kuat - ow far do those extend the rack? Thank you for your reply :-)

@CharisW the Kuat is only 11 inches but it's supposed to only be used with Kuat bike racks. The Swagman part # S86SR adds 11 inches as well. The Saris # SAR36VR adds 13-1/2 inches.

@JamesonC Thanks!! Just what I needed. So the Kuat isn’t designed to work with any other brand bike rack? Does it void a warranty? Or just doesn’t fit a Yakima? Thanks in advance! I think that’s my last question :-)

@CharisW It's more or less a preference/warranty thing from Kuat. They all basically function the exact same but they all rate their adapters a little differently.
