Updated 10/18/2024 | Published 10/17/2024

Question:

Recommendation for 2-ebike 2” hitch mount carrier. My wife’s bike is a step through, has fenders and weights about 55 lbs. My e-bike is a Specialized Turbo Vado SL 5.0 XL frame has no fenders and weights about 37 lbs. thank you

Hi Tom,

First, that's a reallllllly nice bike you have, and we can get you set up with an equally high-quality rack to accommodate both it and your wife's step-through with fenders. Due to the fenders, what you'll need is a bike rack that is frame-mounted, and my favorite for that is one from Hollywood Racks:

- Hollywood Racks Destination E-Bike Rack # HLY66ZR

The # HLY66ZR is able to meet all the specs you need, fitting a 2" hitch with a 70 lb per-bike weight capacity. It also grasps bikes by the frame so it works with step-throughs, as you can see by the photos, which some customers were nice enough to send in.

The Destination also has superb ease-of-use, as it includes a ramp to help load the bikes, and a lever on the front of the rack that you turn to tighten it in the shank. This is different than other racks that require a ratchet you have to have on you just to make sure the rack is secure in the hitch.

Hi Kyle, I’m more familiar with the Thule brand than the Hollywood brand. I see that you carry a frame style rack from Thule: EasyFold XT. Would this work in my case? How does it compare to the Hollywood Destination rack? Thx!

@TomA We do indeed have that exact rack, the Thule EasyFold XT Bike Rack # TH903202. It's an excellent rack and compares very favorably to the Destination rack. It has the same capabilities, and is even easier to transport to and from your car due to it having wheels and a handle. The trade-off is it has a higher price tag, though if that's not a huge concern, then the EasyFold is certainly going to work - and work very well - for your needs.
