Recommended 7-Way Connector and Brake Controller for a 2015 Toyota Highlander

Updated 07/07/2025 | Published 06/30/2025

Question:

Vehicle: 2015 Toyota Highlander Limited V6 FWD Notes: No Factory Tow Package or brake controller, U-Haul Installed Tow Reciever and 4-pin ONLY. Intentions: Pulling an RV with electronic brakes. Questions From research I would need an ETBC7 to convert my 4-pin to 7-blade, and going with the route of Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Brake Controller TK94FR. Is this all I need to have lights and the electronic brakes on the RV to work? Also will this setup charge the RV battery when connected?

Hey Billy, you've done your research well and you are correct. Since your 2015 Toyota Highlander already has a 4-way installed, the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller item # ETBC7 is all you'll need to add a 7-way connector.

The Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Brake Controller item # TK94FR will mount directly to your trailer and plug into your Highlander's new 7-way connector to control the brakes on your trailer.

These are the only two parts you'll need to control your trailer's brakes and lighting functions. The accessory circuit on the item # ETBC7 will keep your RV battery charged.

What kind of trailer do you have?

@JerredH which amp will I utilize? 40 amp? Assuming I’m still using Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Brake Controller TK94FR.

@BillyP You'll want to use the 40 amp circuit breaker when you run the power line to the item # ETBC7 from the battery. There's a diagram on the item # ETBC7 product page that breaks down where exactly the wires and circuit breakers go.
