Anti-Rattle Solution for Use with Rock Tamers Mud Flaps

Updated 06/23/2025 | Published 06/05/2025

Question:

Good afternoon. I have a 2024 Jeep Wrangler, 4-door that I use to tow our 13-foot Scamp camper. The Jeep has a 2-inch hitch receiver and I currently use a 6-inch , adjustable Andersen Rapid Hitch as the hitch. Typically, I install the hitch to the hitch receiver using the second furthest hole in the hitch shank and then use a Roadmaster Quiet Hitch part number: RM-061 as the anti-rattle device. This setup has been working well. I am interested in using a set of Rock Tamers to control the stone throw. However, when I install the Rock Tamers on my current hitch there is not enough space on the hitch shank to install the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch even when using the second hole on the hitch shank. I am looking for a viable solution to provide stone throw protection for the camper and anti-rattle control for the hitch. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Hey Charles, what about installing a set of mud flaps on the Jeep Wrangler like with the universal # 337B1218LSP?

Otherwise you might look into a different anti-rattle device like the part # 63232 which would allow your Rock Tamer setup to install.

Good morning Jameson, I thank you for your reply which I used to investigate this issue further. What I was eventually able to do is find a trailer shop that allowed me to test install a Bulletproof Hitch Model MD204 on my Jeep. This particular hitch had a additional 1/2-inch of space that allowed me to install both the Rock Tamers and the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch easily. The only minor downside is that the Bulletproof Hitch is heavier than the Andersen Rapid Hitch. Thanks again for your help. Regards, Charles

@CharlesS That's awesome! I'm glad the part # MD204 was able to work for you.
