Hello Amy,
We have a hitch that’s going to get the job done, though it’s not a Reese brand. I’m assuming you have the standard step bumper on your 1996 GMC Pickup, since you didn’t mention otherwise. In that case, you’ll want the B&W Heavy-Duty Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class V - 2" # BWHDRH25124. It looks like a pretty straightforward install, no drilling through the vehicle frame is required. Installation is made easier by lowering or temporarily removing the spare tire.
If you don’t need something quite that heavy-duty, you could go with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class IV - 2" # C14081.
If you also need wiring, the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118315 will give you a 4-flat at the back of the pickup. It’s an easy plug-n-play install. If your trailers have brakes, you’ll need to add the # etbc7 on top of the 4-flat wiring. The # etbc7 is a bit more involved, you’ll have to run a brake wire to the back and a power supply from the battery, with some inline fusing or circuit protection.
I attached some install videos for you to check out as well.
