Best Suspension Upgrade for a 1997 Ram 1500 w/a Truck Bed Camper

Updated 03/31/2025 | Published 03/24/2025

Question:

I just bought a camper for my truck, and I thought the rear sagged just a little much when I had it on there, do you think this is the best system for this use? Im also considering air bags but these caught my eye because theyre bolt-on and keep the factory ride when unloaded. What makes me think this would be a good choice is that I wont be exceeding the payload of my truck with this particular camper, just getting close to it when you add in the weight of the camper plus supplies.

Hey Zak thanks for the picture! The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System item # TDR1525H4 is going to be the best option for leveling out the rear end of your Ram 1500. The added weight of that truck bed camper is really going to push the suspension down so the 6,000 lbs capacity springs will definitely address that. When you're not loaded down you shouldn't notice them but that'll depend on how old your truck's springs are.

Thanks for the info Jerred, I've come across another question now about the same thing. It looks like the recommended kit for this is the severe service kit, but I can't seem to find it on the website. Do they not make that for the half ton?

@Zachary Yes, we do! It is the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System item # TDR1525H2. I would stick with item # TDR1525H4 though unless you're planning on rolling around with that camper on 24/7.
