Does Power Wire of Hydrastar Brake Actuator Need Diode Wired In

Updated 01/06/2025 | Published 01/05/2025

Question:

I purchase a Hydra star 1600 from you a while back. I understand that the wiring from the truck should be used to activate the Hydra star. The trailer is an Airstream. The black wire from the truck also charges the 12 volt house batteries . When disconnected from the truck the black wire will still be hot from the house batteries. Is that a problem? Black wire will be hot and white wire will be grounded but no activity on the blue wire. Should I place a diode between the house battery and the hydra star. Thank you for some advice here.

Hey Richard, this is a great question but you do not need a diode on the black wire that runs to your Hydrastar actuator part # HBA16. The black wire is not what activates or primes the actuator as it's the blue wire that does that and that is what runs to the brake controller installed in the vehicle.
