Hey, Darryl.

That definitely sounds like a conundrum, and the solution will depend on which actuator is installed on your Diamond C trailer, since different actuators require different adapters.

What’s happening is that your OEM brake controller isn’t sending a signal the actuator understands. When you use the manual override, the brakes apply, but because the signal is confusing to the actuator, the internal electronics don’t know when to release the trailer brakes.

An adapter resolves this by “tricking” the OEM controller into thinking the trailer has electric brakes. Because different actuators respond to different signals, using the correct adapter allows everything to communicate properly. For example the Deutsche Hydrapro CAM Adapter Module part # DH64FR will work if you have a Dexter and Hydrastar actuator. Hydrastar also has their own adapter part # HBA-CAM.

You can comment below with what actuator you have. If you don't know or can find a name on your actuator, you can reply to the email you will get with pictures of your actuator. Pictures of all sides, any stamping on the shell of the actuator, or stickers will help helpful in IDing what you have.
