What Replacement Bearings Does Dexter 5,000 lb Axle

Updated 09/15/2024 | Published 09/04/2024

Question:

I am planning on inspecting and packing my wheel bearings. My axle is a Dexter P21 5000 axle. It has 31064 on the plate and a serial of 121305210. Can you tell me what parts I should replace? Im assuming the dust cover and maybe seals? It has an easy lube fitting on and the rubber seal has leaked some so I think I need to replace that. Could you please provide me a list of parts to purchase assuming all goes well? Thanks

Hey Jeff, based on your axle info the correct bearing kit would be the part # BK3-310 for a kit that includes both bearings # LM67048 and # 25580 as well as a grease seal. This would be all that you'd need as you can reuse the dust cover.

Thanks, Jameson. Would you mind telling me which dust cover I need. I noticed the rubber seal was leaking last time I greased the bearings through the easy lube. I would like to go ahead and replace it while I’m in there. . Also, a little concerned that my brakes may not be working properly. Could you give me the part number of the brake assembly I would need for this axle? Any particular grease recommendation? Thanks for all your work on this.

@JeffreyS For a replacement dust cover the part # DC250L-DCRP would work great and is correct size. Then for brake assemblies you'd want the part # AKEBRK-7-SA for a set of self adjusting assemblies.

@JamesonC after getting into this, I believe I am going to need to replace the drums as well. Can you please give me a quote for the drums that I need? The ones I have have three-quarter inch lug nuts. I have ordered the brake assembly that you quoted. Do drums come with the bearings installed? I bought the bearing kits. Also the retaining clip that is on the nut is different than the one in the bearing kit. It does not have the sheer pin. Is that something that can be reused or does it need to be replaced? Thanks.

@JeffS You'd want the part # 8-201-9UC3-EZ for a replacement hub/drum. This is pre-greased like you are wanting and comes with it's own bearings installed as well.
