Should a Slide In Camper Sit On 2 X 4's In The Truck Bed?
Updated 07/27/2024 | Published 07/20/2024 >
Question:
I bought an Alaskan camper. Their people loaded the camper on my truck and placed it on five 2 x 4s laid width wise in my trucks bed. Is there a good reason to have these boards underneath my truck camper? They add weight and raise the center of gravity just a bit. Are they possibly there to prevent dry rot from standing rain - water?

The only reason I could see putting your slide in camper on 2x4's would be due to the height of the trucks bed rails. Newer trucks have deeper beds than ever before so if the camper would have sat on the bed rails with the floor of the camper not supported by the truck bed this could cause issues.

Turns out that Bud m. was correct. The wood blocks installed underneath my camper were to give it some height. I measured the trucks sidewall against the camper sidewall, and I did not need the 2 x 4's after all. So, success, I was able to load the camper onto the truck bed with enough clearance. I also was able to reduce the weight on the truck bed and lowered the camper height 2" by removing these boards. Thank you Bud M. and Etrailer for helping me!
