Is Weight Distribution Hitch Or Sway Control Needed For 2019 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pulling RV?

Updated 07/15/2024 | Published 07/06/2024

Question:

Hi and thanks in advance for your weight distribution hitch recommendations for my setup. I just purchased a 2024 East to West SilverLake RV that I will be towing with a 2019 Toyota 4Runner Off Road TRD RV dimensions and weights below. Hitch Weight - 450 lb. UVW - 3,679 lb. CCC - 1,171 lb. Exterior Length - 21foot 3 Exterior Height - 10foot 9 Exterior Width - 96 From what Ive read via this forum it sounds like a weight distribution system is needed for this vehicle/trailer configuration. Could you please recommend the best tow rig set up along with the required part s? Thanks! Joe M.

Hey there Joe, you are correct, you will need a weight distribution hitch with sway control since your owner's manual (according to my online research) says "If the gross trailer weight is over 2000 lb. (907 kg), a sway control device with sufficient capacity is required."
Since your tongue weight is about 450lbs unloaded, I recommend going with the Reese Pro Round Bar Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control - 6,000 lbs GTW, 600 lbs TW # RE34FR since it works with 200lbs-600lbs of tongue weight. This system is extremely popular and is easy to install and use (no-drill clamps for install). I attached a demonstration video for you.
