Is There a Trailer Jack With Wheel & Retracted Height Under 10-1/2 Inches

Updated 07/09/2026 | Published 07/02/2024

Question:

I have a carry on 5x8 low trailer. I need a jack with a wheel that will retract to 9 or 10”.. I have one that has a minimum of 10.5 but is slightly too high. Do you have one? Thanks

Hello Harriet,

We do not offer a trailer jack with a retracted height of 9" or 10" like you need, but a sidewind jack can work, the Boat Trailer Jack w/ Wheel # MJ-1200B.

It isn't strictly a jack for boat trailers, of course, that's just the title, and it has a retracted height of 12-1/2" and you can swivel it up when you aren't using it for better clearance.

Hey Harriet, how did the Boat Trailer Jack with Wheel work out on your 5x8 trailer? Did swiveling it up give you the clearance you needed when not in use? Your update could make it easier for others with the same setup.

I have the same issue, and no, the jack you're suggesting doesn't work because you can't lower the trailer down far enough to engage the coupler on the vehicle, since the ball on the hitch is less than 10 inches off the ground. So with the jack retracted all the way the trailer is still a couple of inches higher than the ball on the vehicle. That's why the original question wanted to know if you have something that is less than 10 inches when retracted. I guess you don't have one?

@Stef I was able to find a couple of jacks with wheels whose retracted heights were 10" or less: Ark Xtreme Off-Road Swivel Trailer Jack w/ 2 Wheels - Sidewind - 12" Lift - Zinc - 770 lbs # ORJW350D Ultimate Trailer Jack - Sidewind - 27-1/2" Lift - 1,500 lbs # UJ44FR etrailer Boat Trailer Jack w/ Wheel - Sidewind - Swivel - 11" Lift - Zinc - 1.5K # MJ-1500B Dutton-Lainson Boat Trailer Jack w/ Wheel - Sidewind - Fixed Mount - 15" Lift - Zinc - 1K # DL22507 Would any of these work for your setup? What kind of trailer are you installing the jack on?

@JerryB, the last one might work. Two of the others are more than 12" retracted. One is more than $200 so not worth it. It's a motorcycle trailer.

@Stef The # DL22507 is a great choice, and would come in right at 10", which I know is the max of the height you're looking for. Since the # MJ-1500B is a swivel mount, it stores parallel to the trailer's frame, so it's footprint would really just be the height of the frame, but you would need clearance for it to fit length-ways. The # UJ44FR is able to adjust all the way up, so it's clearance is actually less than listed. You can view this under the "in use/installed" photos on the product page. Let me know if you have any questions about any of these jacks or others on our site!
