Note: To ensure proper axle alignment and suspension performance, leaf springs should always be replaced in pairs.

Leaf springs are an integral part of your trailer suspension system. The leaf springs provide the attachment points for your trailer's axle, suspending it from the frame of your trailer. Each spring flexes to absorb road shock as you travel, allowing the axle to move somewhat independently of the rest of your trailer. This helps to reduce wear and tear on the trailer and also ensures a smooth ride.

Double-eye leaf springs attach to hangers that are welded onto your trailer. One end of this spring will attach directly to the hanger with a suspension bolt. The other end will attach to shackle straps that are suspended from a hanger. These straps allow the spring to move and pivot so that it can better compensate for uneven pavement. If you have a tandem- or triple-axle trailer, the shackle straps will be attached to the equalizer that connects multiple springs.

To mount this spring, you will need hangers, shackle straps, and suspension bolts. If you are simply replacing a spring, you may still have hangers welded onto your trailer. You should, however, replace your shackle straps because they are usually the first component to wear out. You may choose to replace old suspension bolts as well. It is recommended that you replace the other leaf spring in your setup at the same time. Because springs can sag and elongate as they wear, this new spring may not exactly match the old one, and the alignment of your trailer could be affected.

If you are fabricating a trailer, you will need to purchase a hanger kit for installation. To determine the type of hanger kit that you need, you must know the specific type of leaf spring that you have, as well as your axle capacity. Depending on the hanger kits used with them, springs can be configured to work for single-, tandem- or triple-axle applications. Hangers and other suspension components can also be purchased separately if there isn't a complete kit that works for your setup.

  • Questions About Replacing Leaf Spring On 2002 Ranger Single Axle Trailer
Hello Rocky, thanks for reaching out. If your new leaf springs do not have as much of an arch as the old springs they are definitely not going to help your situation if your tires are already rubbing on the fenders. What we would usually do here is look at the unloaded dimensions of the current spring and try to find something that matches. Just for an example, take a look at the dimensions of the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # DX23CR below. It measures 25-1/4" across and the "arch" is 3"...

  • Hanger Kit Recommendation for Dexter 3.5K 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring
Hey Dennis, thanks for reaching out! The 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # DX23CR has a 3" drop from center eye to middle of the leaf spring (see attached photo). For a single axle setup I recommend the Hanger Kit # APS4, and for a tandem axle setup I recommend the Hanger Kit # APT5. Since the U-Bolt kit sits on either side of the leaf spring, the space between them will be 1-3/4" - the same as your leaf spring width. It might straddle your trailer frame, but you really want more clearance...

  • Replacement Leaf Spring for 2015/2016 Riverside Retro 195
Hi David; you will have to measure your other leaf spring to find the right replacement. I recommend measuring the flat length to get the most accurate measurement, see the article linked further down on this page. For example, if you found that the overall flat length was 26-3/8", or the eye to eye measurement was 25-1/4", you could use the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles # e54SR. If you have a different measurement let me know in the comments below and I'll see what...

  • Looking for a Axle, Leaf Springs, and U-bolts for My 1983 Ranger Trail Trailer
Hello Ben, We can help you out with some of the parts, but unfortunately, the axle will need to be purchased elsewhere. We don’t carry the size you need. If you do a Google search for "square axle for Ranger trailer 2"x3", a few companies should pop up with exactly what you're looking for. - U-bolt kit: You’ll want the CE Smith U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 2" Square Trailer Axles - 4-1/2" Long U-Bolts - Zinc # CE23103. It’s always recommended to use new U-bolts, as they tend to stretch over...

  • Option For Replacing Dexter Leaf Spring Part 072-099-01
Hello again, James. I am afraid the answer will be the same as last time. We have no direct replacement for the Dexter # 072-099-01 spring. The Dexter # DX23CR will be our closest option and this spring is 25-1/4" long. It can be used on your camper, but all 4 springs would need to be replaced. If you are looking for a direct replacement, you may want to try reaching out directly to Dexter. They should be able to tell you how to get one. Feel free to reach out if there is anything else...

  • Availability Of Direct Replacement For Dexter 072-099-01 Leaf Spring
Hello James, thanks for reaching out. I am sorry to tell you that we do not offer a direct replacement for the Dexter 072-099-01 leaf spring. The closest thing we have is the Dexter 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles # DX23CR which is 25-1/4" long. There is a tolerance of 1/2" when replacing leaf springs, but if you were to use these you would need to replace all of the springs, so this would not be good for keeping around as a spare.

  • Replacement Leaf Springs for Trailer With Hemco LTD 1125 21 HM1106 Leaf Spring
Hi Brad; I think your best bet is to either get three more of the Hemco LTD leaf springs or go ahead and replace all four. The # e54SR and # DX23CR match the spring eye to spring eye measurement but some of the other measurements don't match, at least from what I was able to find online for that part number. Since these are Chinese sites I'm looking at I'm not overly confident in the measurements either. I would hate to sell you three leaf springs and have you end up with suspension problems...

  • What Is The Difference Between The etrailer e54SR And Dexter DX23CR Leaf Springs?
Hello Monte, thanks for reaching out. Both of the springs you mentioned, the etrailer # e54SR and Dexter # DX23CR are springs for a 3,500 lb axle. The difference is the brand and the length. The # e54SR is our etrailer brand and is 25-1/8" long eye to eye. The # DX23CR is made by Dexter and is 25-1/4" long. The # DX23CR is going to be a direct replacement for your 072-042-00. If you want to save a bit of money, the # e54SR is also a suitable replacement. The 1/8" difference is well within...

  • Can 2021 Grand Design Imagine 2500RL Use Higher Capacity Leaf Springs
Hey David! Welcome back. If you move to leaf springs like the # e34SR you're in for a rough ride. A slight increase in capacity isn't a problem but this is quite the jump so I do not recommend it. Instead, I would stick with the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles # DX23CR (assuming you need 25-1/4" long leaf springs). If you want to increase the capacity slightly I wouldn't go higher than a 4k leaf spring like the # e57SR.

We need to know the length of the springs you have now with no weight on them. Here's what we have size wise currently: # e54SR which is 25-1/8 inch # e59SR that is 23-1/8 inch # e97SR that is 27 inch # DX23CR that is 25-1/4 inch (this is most likely what you'll need)

  • Need Replacement Leaf Springs For 2019 Coleman Light Travel Trailer 2835BH
Hello Nathan, thanks for reaching out. To answer your question, the 1/8" difference is not going to make a difference when replacing your leaf springs. That said, leaf springs are not a custom fitted part you can look up using our fit guide. There is not a universal database that tells you the leaf spring specs based on a make an model of camper. Campers and trailers just are not standardized like that. The best practice when replacing leaf springs is to jack up one side of the trailer,...

  • What Leaf Springs do I Need for My 2017 Forest River Salem 27dbk?
Hello Scott, We will definitely have some leaf springs that will work for you, but I do not have a database that supplies me with what is put on what camper (would be pretty sweet if such a list existed), so you will need to double check my research. I am showing that you should have a tandem axle set-up with each axle rated at 3,500 pounds. You will need to measure the leaf spring with unloaded weight, it is usually best to jack the camper up to get the weight off completely. Your measurement...

  • Looking for Replacement Leaf Springs for 2014 Coleman Expedition CTS191QB
Hey Frank, I wish I could tell you from here exactly which spring you'd need but we don't have a way to look that up. Unlike vehicles trailers don't have a database that has all of the replacement parts listed. So you'll have to find a way to measure the old springs. Now if I was a betting man I would go with the part # e54SR as the correct replacement as this is the very common size for 3,500 lb axles of 25-1/8 inches. 25-1/4 inch is another popular size too which we have with the part...

Hello Callen, According to my research the 2021 Grand Design Imagine 2500RL comes with (2) 3,500 pound axles. Since I do not have a database that supplies me with what is put on what trailer, you will need to check the measurements on the parts you are replacing. - Leaf springs: should be 25 1/4", you want to measure with the weight unloaded (sometimes best to jack it up to get the weight off), they do stretch over time so you might get a longer measurement like 26". • Picking Out Replacement Trailer Leaf Spring for 3,500 lb Axle that is 25-1/4 inch Long
Hey Thomas, the most important factors for picking out a replacement leaf spring for a trailer are matching axle capacity and length. Getting the same amount of leaves in the spring pack is actually not a huge priority so I wouldn't worry too much about that. Your best option is the part # DX23CR which is correct length and capacity. If you went with the higher rated 6k part # e46SR you'd have a really stiff ride quality.

  • How to Determine Replacement Leaf Springs for Cruiser Radiance Touring 26VSB
Hi Troy; the # DX23CR is 25-1/4" long and the # e54SR is 25-1/8" long. That is really the main difference. The capacity is the same and both are 4-leaf double eye springs. Neither of them are made in the USA. However, I can't tell which spring you need for your Cruiser Radiance Touring 26VSB until you measure your existing leaf springs. It may be neither of these if they don't match what you have now. Since leaf springs flatten out over time with use I recommend taking the flat measurement....

  • Can A 25-1/2" Long Leaf Spring Be Replaced With a 25-1/4" Long Spring?
Hello Kevin: yes, a 25-1/4" spring is fine to use in place of a 25-1/2" spring. Generally, we do want replacement springs to be the same size as the originals, but there is a tolerance of 1/2" or less. The 1/4" difference is not enough to throw off your suspension. Also, leaf springs can flatten out a bit with use over time. If the shop was measuring the old springs to determine the replacement, it could be the springs are measuring a bit on the longer side since they are used. So, it...

  • How to Pick Out the Correct Replacement Leaf Springs for a Tagless Axle
It probably is a 3,500 lb axle, but you can verify this by measuring the axle tube diameter. For instance, a 3,500 lb axle will measure 2 3/8" in diameter, and would make the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles # DX23CR the best replacement.

  • Replacement Suspensions Components For A 1993 Bigfoot B-17 Travel Trailer
Hi Alex, The correct way to measure your leaf springs would be to lift the trailer by the frame and let the weight of the axle hang to take the pressure off of the spring and then measure across eye-to-eye. Following the curvature of the spring will give you a longer length. Your axle being 2-3/8" in diameter would indicate that it's likely rated for 3,500lbs so within that weight class we have a few different lengths: 23-1/8" # e59SR 25-1/8" # e54SR 25-1/4" # DX23CR 27" # e97SR Based...

Hey Chad! The Dexter 072-078-01 is only a 2,200 lbs capacity leaf spring. The item # e44SR you referenced is the same size but has a 5,000 lbs capacity. You can use a higher capacity leaf spring, however it won't increase the capacity of your trailer as the axle is still rated for that maximum capacity of 4,400 lbs. I would go with the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles item # DX23CR. It'll be softer but expect it to be stiffer than the 2,200 lbs springs you're currently...
