Older license plate lights can fade and fail fast, but this LED upgrade keeps shining bright. With three efficient white LEDs inside a clear lens, it puts out clean, even illumination across your plate while drawing only 0.035 amps at 12V. You get a brighter light that uses less power and lasts up to 50 times longer than traditional bulbs—with no filaments to break or bulbs to replace.
Water is no match for this light. The housing and lens are sonically sealed into one solid piece, keeping out moisture even when submerged. That sealed design protects the internal diodes and circuit board from corrosion or shorting out, making it ideal anywhere your trailer might see splashes or full submersion.
Installation is straightforward thanks to its surface-mount design. The durable stainless steel base resists rust, while the polycarbonate lens and housing hold up against impacts and weather. It measures 4" wide x 1-15/16" tall x 2" thick with mounting holes spaced 3-1/4" center to center. It accepts a standard 2-prong plug for quick and secure wiring—no custom connectors needed.
Keeping your license plate visible isn’t just about looks—it’s required. This light angles down perfectly to illuminate the plate area and meets FMVSS L standards for license plate lighting. With its clear lens, white LEDs, and efficient output, it ensures your plate stays clearly visible in all conditions while staying compliant.

Today we'll be taking a look at the Optronics LED trailer license plate light. This is going to illuminate your license plate on your trailer to make it visible to other drivers, and also to stay within DOT compliance. It's going to be durable housing, polycarbonate lens and housing's also made of that polycarbonate. This is sonically sealed, so that means that the housing and the lens unit are submersible. It's going to work for marine trailers or really any trailer that's going to be out in the elements for a long time. It's going to keep any dirt, water, debris from getting in there and causing issues with your electrical connections.
It should be a long lasting light that we don't have to worry about. We'll have the bracket attached to it. It has two little ears coming off the sides so we can mount this up. It does not come with any hardware for this, so you will have to provide some mounting hardware on your own. But the other nice thing about this light is that it is an LED light. So we'll have longer lasting bulbs.
Not only is it sealed from the elements, but we don't have to worry about any filaments, any brittle bulbs from breaking, and causing issues there. They should last for a long time. Typically LEDs last up to 50 times longer than your typical incandescent bulb. Virtually no maintenance with these. The wiring is just this plug at the back. It accepts an industry standard two prong plug.
I have mine here connected to a power source. Plug those up. There are a lot of options for these two prong plugs available at etrailer.com if you want to pick one up to make wiring your trailer a little bit easier. We turn on that light. See, it's nice and bright.
We'll have our white LEDs to give us that clear illumination. I'm going to turn the lights out here in the studio so you can get a better idea of what it'll look like, an idea of what it'll look like in the dark. It's pretty bright for such a small light. It'll do a good job of illuminating our license plate. So I grab an example here. Set that above my license plate. You can see it illuminates it pretty well.Turn our power source off, and let's take some measurements. The light at its greatest point is about 2 1/4 inches deep. And then the housing is about three inches wide. The ears of our bracket at the widest point is about four inches wide. And that's about two inches tall. The wiring coming off the back is over 12 inches. Let me grab my handy tape measure. And it looks like that wiring coming off the back is about 16 inches long, or excuse me, about 17 inches long. So should be a good amount of length to get that connected up to the rest of your trailer's wiring. We'll have three diodes in there. The power draw at 12 volts is 0.035 amps, so very low power draw. And there is a limited lifetime warranty on the LEDs from Optronics. And that's going to do it for our look at the Optronics LED trailer license plate light.

This will replace my broken license plate light on my 6x14 enclosed trailer
I recently decided to relocate the license plate on my new 5 X 10 aluminum trailer. It came from the factory with the plate located under the bed of the trailer where lifting the trailer caused damage to the plate and was difficult to see. I purchased the license plate light and began the process of relocation. The light now provides and excellent illumination for the relocated plate, was easy to install, and was very economical to purchase. Attached pictures reflect the finished product installed on my trailer.
Great product!
YOU DID A GREAT JOB THANK YOU!!!!!!
great service product was perfect
Great Value
Great selection, excellent website, fast delivery. This product should come with at least a mention of the wire color code; both in the web and text and on a small piece of paper in with the shipment. It looks like the lens may come off; if YES it should say how to properly or if NO it should say that so no one tries to open it up and breaks it. It would be good to state how many lumens the LED makes compared to the old incandescent fixture so customers know how much light they will get...more, same, less. as they plan the position of one or more of these based on regulations.
Was exactly what I was needing.
I just received my lights and have not installed them yet. However, I immediately noticed that the mounting holes in the stainless plate are not centerred in the ears and too close to the light to use bolts. This is something that you can correct easily and should be obvious to you.
Unit works well and mounted easily
Exact replacement for the one I broke, great light at night
It was easy to install and was a perfect fit. A very bright light.
Product works great as far as the light. I only buy items for my trailer thru etrailer & will continue. Only problem I had with the tag light was it doesn’t light up my tag cause it’s not sitting high enough but I haven’t been pulled over in a years time so I let it fly. Still buy from etrailer & always will. Great customer service like Nicole, Amy & Melissa all seem to really care about me & any issues. Highly recommend. Just 1 thing I don’t understand is why etrailer doesn’t send out stickers with every order being as most clients have a billboard that moves around with them for free advertising. Just a thought.
