Auxiliary Lighting For a Bike Rack Behind a Flat Towed 2024 Chevrolet Trax

Updated 05/21/2025 | Published 03/15/2024

Question:

Question about lights for a bike rack. I have a 2018 Winnebago View, a 2024 Chevy Trax set up for flat towing, and a Hollywood RV Rider bike rack HLY64FR attached to the Trax. I now realize that. especially with the bikes covered, I will need lights on the bike rack. The Trax does not have a trailer wiring socket to plug into and when flat towed the battery must be disconnected. My RV shop said they could tie into the wiring they already completed for flat towing on the Trax and provide I think a 4-pin connector for the bike rack lights. I plan on using the rack on the Trax when flat towed and when driven without being towed. So, what lights would you recommend? TIA

As long as the flat tow wiring is wired in before the 4-Way # C93ZV and you connect the power for the converter directly to the battery it will work. I have seen several use Magnetic Lights # TL21RK which they will wire in on the main harness to have additional lighting and a separate 4-way connector just for that purpose.

Thanks, I’m curious to know if this converter will work with the Roadmaster diode wiring for flat tow. The diodes jump in just behind the vehicles tail lights. I’m also flat towing a 2025 Chevy Trax behind an RV and will be using a bike rack and cover over the bikes. I’m looking to purchase a tail / brake / turn lights that I can put on the bike rack.

@GregD Yes, it is possible to use a T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness and A Roadmaster Diode Kit on the same vehicle. They would install separately of one another. What bike rack do you have? Let me know and I am happy to look into light kit options.

@JesseM thanks Jesse! I assume I would need to jump the wiring in after the Roadmaster Smart Diode so that the vehicles brake lights would work when being towed by the RV or when the car is being driven. I currently use a Thule T2 bike rack.

@GregD correct. The T-connector plug in right behind the tail lights. The Diodes would install on the vehicle wires right behind the tail lights. There is not a light kit made specifically for the Thule T2, but we do have a solution. You could use the LED kit part # 98174LED for a light kit and then use the bracket # BK70BB to mount the lights to your Thule T2. It would require putting a few self tapping screws into your rack or some minor drilling.
