Hopkins VueSMART Not Working on 2023 Chevy Silverado

Updated 02/19/2024 | Published 02/17/2024

Question:

I have the Hopkins VueSmart camera installed to my travel trailer and have it wired into the trailers running lights. I have the lights from the truck on the always on position to provide power to the camera. No wifi SSID shows up on either my iPhone or iPad when hooked up to my tow vehicle a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD. All my running lights on the trailer work fine. The Vuesmart flashes white for a second or two then goes blank. When I hook it up to our other truck a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, the Wifi SSID for the camera shows up just fine on all my devices and the camera works just fine. Is this camera not compatible with the newer Chevrolet trucks?

Expert Reply:

The VueSMART is compatible with newer Chevy trucks, but the Chevy/GMC trailer wiring power is just a mess, and camera systems are hit or miss on them. They don't give the full power to the running lights and 12 volt which cause all kinds of issues. Generally, an adapter will do the trick, the 7-Way Vehicle Power Adapter for Furrion RV Observation Camera # FR87PR.

This gives the right level of power to the trailer wiring, and it should be the fix you need. I can't absolutely guarantee it as I can't be 100 percent certain that's the issue with your camera, but it's what I would try.

Will Item # VGR64VR work to combat the PWM trailering light systems in the newer Chevrolet trucks with the Hopkins VueSMART camera?
