Will the 7-Way Trailer Adapter # C57003 Activate Trailer Brakes when Used on a 2014 VW Tiguan

Question:

Hello I have a 2014 VW Tiguan and I have been speaking with VW techs. Now according to the tech they state that even with the adapter to make the lights work since I have to use the break controller when the turn signal is triggered it could possibly cause the breaks on the trailer to activate. Have you found that to be an issue?

Any brake controller should be on a separate pin from the turn/brake light circuits so using the 7-Way Trailer Adapter # C57003 should not activate the brakes on your trailer (see attached picture).

With that being said, there could be something going on with the wiring on your 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan that the techs are aware about if you are using an OEM controller. Any controller should be tied to a signal that only activates when your brake pedal is pushed so if they are saying that the brake controller is somehow tied to the turn signal as well then it was installed incorrectly.
