Video Transcript for All About the Load Resistor Kit for LED Turn Signals

Jeff: Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're going to take a look at the 50 watt load resister kit for the LED turn signals. It is for a quantity of two resistors. Now these load resistors will prevent hyperflashing on your turn signals with LED bulbs. It's designed to work with most import and domestic vehicles. You can see they are a nice compact design.

They'll fit into tight spaces. These are compatible with 12 volt DC systems. They will surface mount behind your vehicle headlights and the connection plugs are included. The quick connect plugs, which will let you easily connect to your power source. A few specs again, it's two load resistors.

Wattage is 50 watts, electrical resistance is six ohms, and last thing I want to do is just give you dimensions on the resistor. The length on it, right at two inches long. The width, including the mounting brackets, it's right at one and a quarter inches wide. And the overall height of it is right at 11 16ths of an inch tall. But that should do it for the review on the 50 watt load resistor kit for the LED turn signals..

Fast shipping and good price for this item. And the shipping costs to Canada were very reasonable.
I haven't used the item. It was recommended by a friend that I order this as well as the trailer adaptor plug (which was excellent and reviewed separately) but turned out I haven't needed it with my current configuration. I've hung onto it because it will be needed for a trailer configuration on my second vehicle (once I get that sorted out).
Anyway, etrailer dot com had what I needed and will ship to my country. The costs of the item and shipping were IMO very reasonable. And the response to my order was super fast and efficient. Highly recommended.

This product fixed my trailer LED light issues while connected to my 2020 Silverado HD. I used 1 of these on each circuit to place proper load on circuit so that the truck would recognize the trailer was connected and allow the lights to function properly.

I wanted to ask how you had installed them? We have a great question on the site that can help. Please see the link below.

This is the second set I ordered. I replaced all my lights on my Toyota with LED's and the hyper flash issue came to light. I knew a resistor would work but didn't know exactly what to get. I called and as usual, etrailer was extremely helpful. The customer service lady suggested what to purchase and I did. The resister set arrived early which was wonderful, however in packaging they pretty much weaken the wiring as they fold them over to get them in the clam shell. Both resisters look pretty frail and I fear the wires will break eventually. I went ahead and installed them and unfortunately they only fixed my hazard lights, turn signals still hyper flash. I ordered a second set to put one at each corner. The packaging was the exact same. GGGGRRR. I have not installed these yet but I hope they fix my problem and the wires do not break. The set is affordable but my only complaint about etrailer is the shipping. I have had instances where it's cheaper to keep product then to return it.

Converted recently to LED lights on my 2008 Dodge Ram 2500. Although the manufacturer assured me the LED replacement lights were simple plug-n-play & thus did not need resistors to prevent hyper-flash… WRONG, rear signals did not play well w/ others. Jesse M identified the correct resistor set, shipping was fast & the frustrating hyper-flash eliminated immediately. Thanks Jesse!

by:

It was easy to install the resistor with quick connect clips, I wish there was some instructions with the packaging. I didn't know if it matters what side of resistor was connected to positive. I decided to just install them and fixed my hyper flashing the new led tail lights.

Installed LED lights on a 2010 RAM Truck and the turn signals were hyper flashing. Sent for the Load Resistor Kit and the problem was solved, easy install and support was great - did not need much support, only one question and they got back to me quickly. Great product, thank you.

by:

The LED tail lights work as expected and easy to install. I didn't need the resistors but will keep them for possible
future needs.

  • How to Keep LED Turn Signal Lights on Toolbox From Flashing with Brake Pedal Pressed
Hi Richard! It sounds like you're needing to install the Load Resistor Kit for LED Turn Signals # DI34ZR on the turn signals you've installed on your toolbox. Since LEDs don't require as much power as incandescent bulbs, sometimes we see some power "leak through" and cause the LED lights to flash like what you're experiencing. The resistor kit makes the LEDs "look" like incandescent lights to your wiring system so this kind of thing doesn't happen.

  • Load Resistors to Allow Wiring Harness to Operate with LED Trailer Lights
LED type trailer lights use very little power, about one-tenth the amount required by standard incandescent light bulbs. This can cause some wiring systems to not "see" the trailer lights because their current draw is so low. In some cases a wiring harness may not function correctly if used with LED lights unless a load resistor is installed at each LED light unit. We offer 2-piece ceramic load resistor kit # DI34ZR which will allow your harness to operate properly with LED trailer lights....

  • Load Resistors to Fix Rapid Flashing LED Lights
The LED taillights often have this hyperflashing issue. To solve it, you simply need to add a load resistor like # DI34ZR. You will need one resistor for each side and this kit comes with 2. This will draw more power from your system so you won't get that hyperflashing. I've attached a diagram on correctly installing these load resistors.

The load resistors # DI34ZR put out 6 ohms resistance each and you most definitely can install them yourself. I've attached a photo of the correct installation method to assist. They will get warm to the touch but you can absolutely install them on the inside of your RV where the wires come in from the tow vehicle. I wouldn't put anything right up against the fins as that would further reduce cooling and increase heat, but you won't have any issue in the location stated. The 7-Way...

  • How to Install LED Light Bulb Load Resistor for Use with Trailer with LED Lighting
The Diamond LED Light Bulb Load-Resistor Kit # DI34ZR wires in parallel with each trailer lighting circuit. For a trailer with LED lighting (that does not present the same electrical load as an incandescent type bulb) you will wire one resistor inline with each circuit, so for a typical 4-pole installation you'll need three, for left turn/stop, right turn/stop and running light circuits. The kit includes quick-splice connectors.

  • Are Load Resistors Required when Adding LED Lights to a Trailer
You may not even need load resistors to switch to LED lights. The best thing to do is to try the lights without load resistors first. No need to purchase something you may not need until you know need it. Load resistors such as # DI34ZR dissipate heat through the body of the resistor. Wrapping them with insulation would prevent them from dissipating heat properly. You could put them in a battery or junction box though. Load resistors increase the amperage draw on a circuit. To wire the Load Resistor Kit for LED Turn Signals # DI34ZR into your vehicles turn signals you will need to find your turn signal wire for your vehicle. Once that wire is identified, take the one end of the wire and the turn signal wire and connect to the quick splice connector. Make this connection by crimping the wires together with a crimping tool like # PTW30764. From here you'll connect the other white wire and ground this wire to a good ground source. • Troubleshooting Hyper Flashing Trailer Lights on Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Van
The hyper flashing due to LED lights on your trailer is often solved with the 7-way adapter you mentioned the Trailer Connector Adapter w/ Lamp-Out Sensor Bypass - 7-Way RV to 7-Way RV - Vehicle End # 20142. The issue is often that LED's pull so much less power that the computer systems don't know how to accommodate the small electrical load. What I recommend doing next is checking each ground connection to ensure you have a bare metal to metal connection. Then if you still have issues,...

Hey Pete, so to add a third brake light that uses two wires to your 3 wire system you're going to need to use # 118158 to splice into your combined right/stop and left/stop wiring, then connect your 3rd LED brake light to the stop output on the converter. If there ends up being some hyper flashing you'll need to add in the Load Resistor Kit for LED Turn Signals # DI34ZR between the converter and the light, which will create a stronger draw like incandescent lights.

  • Troubleshooting Backup Camera Not Powering on When Hooked up to LED Trailer Lights
Thanks for reaching out, Cory! It sounds like the power your LED lights are pulling isn't enough to power up your camera. What I recommend doing is hooking the camera up directly to 12V power to see if that makes a difference. If it does then you can use a Lamp-Out Sensor Adapter to get more power pushed to the running light circuit. Part # 20142 is what you need for a trailer 7-Way, but part # C35FR is for a trailer 4-Way/5-Way. If your vehicle has a 4-Way then you'll need to add a Load...

  • Correcting Hyperflashing After Installation LED Taillights on 2004 Dodge Ram 3500
In order to stop your turn signals and brake lights from hyperflashing with your LED taillights, you will want to install LED Light Bulb Load-Resistors on the turn light and brake signal wires. Hyperflashing is a common issue when changing incandescent bulbs to LEDs. One of my fellow Experts put LEDs on his Dodge 2500 and ran into the same issue. • Turn Signal Hyperflash on Tow Vehicle Towing a Boat Trailer
It sounds like you have experienced a hyperflash condition. LED lights will flash like that because they do not provide enough power draw for the system to recognize them. Also, you should not mix LED and incandescent lights on a trailer. If the vehicle has LED lights and the trailer has incandescent lights then as long as the vehicle has the proper converter installed or has the factory wiring harness it should be fine unless it is the factory harness on a German vehicle like a BMW or...

  • Trailer Lights Blinking Really Fast When Connected to 7-Way on 1997 GMC Yukon
When someone is experiencing out of control or hyper flashing turn signals, a few things come to mind. First would be, does the trailer have LED lights? If so, installing load resistors, # DI34ZR, on the turn signal circuits should solve the problem. • Are Load Resistors Needed When Converting Incandescent Taillights to LEDs
If the vehicle has bulb-out sensors, you'll want to use load resistors on each turn signal circuit to prevent hyperflashing. Because LED lamps draw so much less power than an incandescent bulb, the bulb out sensor thinks the bulb is burned out. The load resistor adds resistance to the circuit, which simulates a full load on the circuit. Hazard flashers use the turn signal bulbs, so the same two load resistors will cover that, as well. I've linked you to the install diagram for the load...

There's two possible causes for the buzzing, and the turn signal issue might or might not be related. Does the trailer have LED lamps? If so, the # 118158 wasn't designed with LED lamps in mind. The buzzing in this case would be caused by not enough power being drawn through the circuits, which could also be a possible cause of the turn signal issue. A poor...

I recommend picking up the Curt T-Connector # C59DR which tees in behind the tail lights on your 2022 Ford Maverick but has a power lead you run to the battery so the 4-Way connector is pulling power straight from the battery as opposed to potentially overloading the OEM wiring circuits. This is a much safer option to splicing in connections because we aren't cutting into the factory wiring, the power is being pulled from the battery so the OEM circuits are unaffected, and the black module...
