Recommended Electric trailer Jack For A 2017 Keystone Passport Ultra Lite Travel Trailer

I am looking to buy an electric trailer jack for my husband for Father’s Day. We have a 2017 keystone passport 2670bh pull behind trailer. The dry weight is 5085 lbs. The GVWR is 6960 lbs and the hitch weight is 625 lbs. Does that mean that I need a jack with a 5000 lb capacity or would a 4000 lb one work? Thanks.

When looking for the appropriate capacity trailer jack we use a simple formula to determine the tongue weight of the trailer. You'll take 10-15% of the GVWR or you can have the trailer weighed (while fully loaded) at one of the highway weigh stations for a more accurate measurement of the tongue weight. Then you'll just want to choose a jack that's above the fully loaded tongue weight of the trailer.
If you take 15% of 6,960lbs then you would have 1,044lbs so anything over this would be acceptable. You can still buy a much higher capacity jack if you want, with the benefit being that it will easily handle the load and can work faster with a longer lifespan since it's not working as hard as it was designed to. A 3,500lb jack like the etrailer Electric Jack w/ Footplate # EJ-3520-BBX would be more than adequate for your Passport. I just recommend also getting a cover # UF38-944020 to protect the head of the jack from the elements and prolong its lifespan.
The Electric Ground Control TT Automatic 5-Point Travel Trailer Leveling System # LC672136 you were looking at would also be a compatible option, but is quite a bit more since it includes leveling jacks for the entire trailer. It's quite a bit more work to install so I've attached a video where Dave go over this system in greater detail and show you how to install it.
